Two strangers, Subbu and Sumati, bogged down by the harsh realities of life and planning to end it, encounter each other at a cliff edge. The duo strike up a conversation, the thought of a gory end making them decide on a more painless way of dying. But destiny has other plans for them. Circumstances make them part ways, and as the duo try to come to terms with life, their paths cross again.
A remake of the Telugu hit, ‘Itlu Sravani Subramaniam’, ‘Thavam’ is produced by hero Arjun. It’s a film with a simple, straight narrative and an interesting opening. It introduces to the Tamil screen heroines Vandana and Arpita, each adequate in her role. Vadivelu’s comedy doesn’t work out here.
‘Rising Star’ Arun Vijay’s changed hairstyle and new look looks good on the actor. He has played his role with casual ease, and his vigorous dance movements in the catchily picturised dance number ‘Sandaikozhi.’ is worth appreciating.
Incidentally, Arjun appears in a cameo as the saviour of Subbu in a tense situtation, and wishes him all success. Relate this to the well-intentioned effort of the Action King in producing the film to resurrect the down and out career of Arun. But unfortunately, this film with not many high points, and with not much chance for ‘heroism’, hardly makes for an ideal comeback vehicle for the ‘Rising Star’!
