Krishna - Telugu Movie Review

February - 11 - 2008

VV Vinayak proved himself that he is perfect in directing action films. His films like Tagore, Aadhi, Lakshmi confirmed the belief. For the first time, he wielded the megaphone for a Raviteja’s flick and Trisha also roped in for the first time in his direction opposite Raviteja. Akula Siva, who penned the story for Lakshmi, again prepared a good subject keeping Raviteja’s body language in mind and dished out a good entertainer. The combination proved a big hit and the audiences had got a feast in the form of a youthful romantic, action entertainer. No doubt, the film would remain one of the hit films for this Sankranthi.

Krishna (Raviteja) who was an employee in a big software company with a good salary, sacrifices his job for another person who had family problems. Though he could get another job he whiles away the time with his friends. He loses his heart to Sandhya (Trisha) and is after her for some time. Suddenly she disappears and Krishna finds from her brother Bobby (Brahmanandam) that she left for Hyderabad to stay with her father Shinde (Sayaji Shinde) after end of vacation. Krishna reaches Hyderabad and finds that she was in danger from the rivals of Shinde, as he had sent Jakka (Mukhul Dev) to jail on a rape and murder case. Was he able to save Sandhya from the hands of Jakka? Why Jakka is after Sandhya though he had rivalry with Shinde? How Krishna teaches Jakka a lesson and showed him the power of Indrakeeladri? Answers to all these questions form part of the remaining story.

Raviteja gave an excellent performance in the film. He not only showed good ease in dances and action scenes, but also exhibited perfect comedy timing. The film once again proved that Raviteja could handle all sections of acting including sentiment, action, love, romance and comedy. His body language was also quite perfect and the audiences could find only the character and not Raviteja on the screen. Trisha, though had not much role to perform, filled the glamour slot with ebullience. She did neither wear any revealing dresses nor resorted to any exposure, but appeared too romantic in the film. Especially she looked very beautiful during the dance numbers. Especially, the cinematographer could not move the camera away from her waist and belly button. Brahmanandam got a fair chance to prove his acting talents in the movie. Without resorting to cheap and vulgar comedy, VV Vinayak extracted excellent comedy from Brahmanandam to the fullest extent. He made the audiences to watch the real comedian in this Guinness record holder. For that matter, his character runs almost parallel to the hero in the movie. It is one of the best characters he got in recent times and remained a big asset for the movie. Others including newcomer Mukhul Dev (villain), Sayaji Shinde, Jayaprakash Reddy, Chandramohan, Venumadhav, Sunil, Sudha, Sana did justice to their roles.

Director VV Vinayak once again proved his stamina with this movie. Especially, he proved that action is his forte. He brought out the action scenes with perfect precision with the help of action directors Ram-Lakshman. At the same time, he tried to prove his calibre in bringing out a commercial entertainer. All the action scenes, especially the chases were shot in an extraordinary way. Chota K Naidu’s camera remained an asset for the film in catching the action scenes and in capturing the beauty of the lead pair in dance numbers. Music by Chakri is another highlight and the choreography of songs was also worth watching. Story and dialogues provided by Akula Siva perfectly suited Raviteja and made the audiences believe that it is a tailor made subject for him. Re-recording and the music had elevated the mood in some scenes. Production values of Lakshmi Narasimha Visuals are lavish.

The entire first half was run on comedy base and Brahmanandam took the responsibility to run the show on par with Raviteja. The twist at the interval bang made the audiences to rush into the theatre immediately without waiting outside. Though the beginning of the second half is okay, the director lost grip for about 10 minutes in the middle and again got hold of it after that to maintain the same tempo. Though there are no much twists in the film, the director’s ability made the film interesting. There is not even a single boring scene in the film and Gauthamraju needs to be complimented for his excellent editing work. Three songs are very good to watch and the others also good. As a whole, the film would remain a good family entertainer during this year’s Pongal season. The film also had huge openings.
