Thoondil – An impressive flick

Director Adhiyaman making his re-entry into Kollywood delivers a good spell of thriller and family entertainer. His extra-ordinary terms of blending aspects of romance and suspense with a gripping screenplay does make Thoondil – a worth watching movie. Lack of absurdities remains as greatest relief for all and makes us more glued to film with the plot planted just between three characters.

Auteur marks his excellence of perfection by adding unexpected suspense thrills of twist and turns to a simple story. The film centers on a newly married couple Sriram (Shaam) and Anjali (Sandhya) in London. Well, discommode strikes the couples get to know that Anjali posses inability to conceive a child. Even a well-renowned gynecologist (Revathi) is disappointed with her failing attempts in getting Anjali conceived with a child. As the saying goes ‘Miracles do happen’, both the couple are dipped in gleeful moment, when Anjali miraculously conceives a child…

But the couple is very soon maimed with troublesome bit, when their new born child is kidnapped by a London based model Divya (Divya) who is an ex-lover of Sriram. Despite his love and affection for wife and child, Sriram has some hidden reasons of not restoring his child from Divya.

Anjali is thrown into absolute shock, when Sriram reveals about his affair with Divya. Well, that isn’t the end, for she must wait for another shocking fact that will crumple her. On the other hand, Divya looks more determined in not returning the child and she does prove in the court that she is the mother of the child.

Discomfited Sriram has none for his rescue and of course, certain favourable events urges him to get back the child and what happens next forms the crux of story…

Encounters between three characters strongly leave few puzzling doubts among the audiences about nativity of child. But, a very finely crafted screenplay takes the movie along with these aspects. Not just with this element does the flick moves? Director Adhiyaman adds entertaining factors at appropriate propositions so as to make us experience different feels.

There are few scenes that steal show: a bullet hitting Shaam’s car, Divya playing tricks with Shaam and the cyber crime concept takes the spotlight…  Many more elements of the same pattern maintains the impulsive moment of script.

As of in general, Thoondil cannot be termed more than a triangular love story, but adding some sensible concepts makes us sing appraisals for the auteur. However, Adhiyaman does come up with some blatant flaws and bit of absurdities when it comes to reason for Sriram and Divya getting disunited.

Getting on with performance, everyone does a decent task in getting struck deeply with their characters. After a long time, we can see Shaam brimmed with excellent performance in emoting to different situations. The way he tries to handle the topsy-turvy situation standing amidst of childlike wife and a revenge yearning lover grabs audiences’ attention. Sandhya has to be appreciated for her bold attempt of opting a different role of mother and her acting in different scenarios adds more colour to the script.

Most worthy to be praised here is Divya who strides with a marvelous performance on a negative role. Appearing in alluring looks is sure to snatch young hearts. And her presentation in emotional sequences keeps carrying the film on its shoulder.

Coming up with the same old pattern, Vivek adds more to the humour part with his rib-trickling comedy tracks and he imitating Sarath Kumar and Rajnikanth will chill your sense of laughter.

Abhishek Ray’s music is convincing and soothing to the ears and his background scoring goes appreciable. Canning the enchanting looks of London; T. Kaviyarasu does his best in getting perfect shots out of cans. His noteworthy job goes more evident the sequence shot at a remote island.

On the whole, despite few flaws, Thoondil marks its triumph with fine screenplay glued with suspense and entertaining elements.
