Sandai - Tamil Movie Review

Sandai – A cliche of entertainer

Auteurs of Kollywood who have flicks of commercial banality have mingled and do you something? Their magic has worked despites the movie being a remake of superstar Rajnikanth and Amala starrer Maapillai. An interesting conflict between in-laws has been centralized by Shakthi Chidambaram who earlier fetched good credits with films Englishkaaran and Kovai Brothers.

Well, you may feel is there anything special about Sundar C? Of course, you have the director turned actor with trimmed physique tripping his legs with young missy debutant Raghini.

Let’s not keep ourselves more dragged with intro part. Come on and take a glimpse through synopsis of the movie Sandai.

The film opens at the backdrop of Bangkok where you get to see, a billionaire tycoon Thangalakshmi and her daughter Abhinaya (Raghini) leading a happy life. Sooner, mom has plans for the nuptials of Abhinaya to be held in her hometown Coimbatore for personal reasons. However, the reason is revealed as soon they shore up on their native land when an attempt is made to kidnap Abhinaya by her own uncle Palpandi (Alex Pandi).

With none to subside her burden, Thangalakshmi essays the help of a local punk ‘Katthi’ (Sundar C) to save her daughter. Astonished by his brutal heroism, she opts to get him stay in his house to afford security for Abhinaya.

Meanwhile, Thangalakshmi’s personal secretary (Vivek) and Kathi fall in love with Abhinaya and have plans of entering into nuptials with her. Rest of the film moves in an entertaining factor with a great suspense revealed during the intermission.

The most interesting aspect of Sandai is the very appealing cast especially Nadhiya in particular. But on the other corner, the annoying part of this flick is Dheena’s musical score and seems like there is lack of good tunes. If you need an illustration, well! You have tune of a devotional hymn rendered by L.R.Easwari and a remix piece of ‘Vaadi En Kappakizhangae’.

There is nothing much you can appreciate about the technical crew and stunts choreographed by Thalapathy Dinesh aren’t’ extraordinary.

As of Sundar C, it is assured that he hits the bull’s eye scoring hat-trick in his career as an actor. Raghini has nothing much to perform and it’s the same with Namitha who is added to the cast just like that. But it Nadhiya who steals the show and her chemistry with Sundar C is one of the main highlights of the movie. Vivek adding to the humor part could have avoided tracks carrying double meanings.

On the whole, Sandai is a movie that can be watched if your eyes aren’t noticing the absurdities.
