Yaaradi Nee Mohini - Tamil Movie Review

April - 7 - 2008

Yaaradi Nee Mohini – Nothing much to rave about

With some entertaining aspects, brother duo Selvaraghavan-Dhanush is back with Yaaradi Nee Mohini. Of course, these brothers have been jaunting with a dramatic cliché and this time, it’s a different fiesta with a jovial chap, an annoying father and a Missy from orthodox Brahmin family.

Directorial by Jawahar takes you to the delight of enjoying this flick to full extent though the story is of the often seen theme. The film centers on an ordinary chap reigned from a middle class family possessing poor qualification to obtain a job. Two friends of different family backgrounds Vasu (Karthik Kumar) and another one (Karunaas) are his only support.

Soon after getting a job in a software solutions firm, Dhanush happens to be glued to love at first sight with his colleague Keerthi (Nayanthara). On an official journey to Australia, he expresses his love for her only to get his hopes dashed. Dhanush’s father played by Raghuvaran, who chides him all the time for being an irresponsible person feels sorry for his son. Soon he meets Keerthi to get her understand his son’s feeling and this time she insults him to the uttermost level. Unable to bear the insult, Raghuvaran dies of heart attack and it’s a great loss for his son.

Glued with loneliness, he has his friend Vasu taking to his hometown where he has to bear another shock. It is revealed that Keerthi is none but the fiancée of Vasu and they were supposed to get married before a long time. With the marriage arranged by their grandfather, they set out of their house to have their own identity. With an attempt to conciliate the grandfather, parents of both Vasu and Keerthi arrange for their marriage.

Well, on the previous night of the marriage, Keerthi realizes that she cannot think about a life without Ganesh (Dhanush). With things turning favorable for Keerthi, Ganesh has to decide between emotions and relations…

Getting in terms with narrative aspect, A.Jawahar has presented us with a movie that will let us enjoy. Selvaraghavan’s screenplay has a mixture of comedy, sentiments, romance and more of emotions. Dhanush looks more apt with an exact character suiting him and you have Nayanthara performing something special here. Apart from her looks, she does an attractive job doing justice to her role. Be it an emotional or jocular sequence, she has the best out of her. Though, the flick almost all the characters adhered with comedy, Karunaas adds more to the part of humor.

Yuvan Shankar Raja’s music is just average. Selvaraghavan standing on the shoes of penning story, crafting dialogues and screenplay with exaggeration keeps up the tempo right throughout the film though it sans logic. The father’s role played by Raghuvaran is quite interesting and you know something, you are sure to feel your heart melted during the funeral rites performed for him (something to relate with the real life). In the entire movie, the girl who acted as Nayanthara’s sibling steals the show.

When it comes to negative attributes, the movie sans logic and highly exaggerated.  Overall the movie is just an average grosser. The major plus is just the fun-filled dialogues and hilarious act of a girl who plays the sibling of Nayanthara. One can watch this movie only for fun and nothing else.
