A story teller of Tamil screens, veteran director Bharathiraja, who brought the screen a realistic depictions of village life has made some memorable films like Mudhal Mariyadhai, Karuththamma, Alaigal Oyvadhillai, Mann Vaasanai, Vedham Pudhithu, Kizhakku Cheemaiyile and Anthimanthaarai. He launched the careers of Bhagyaraj, Radikaa, Rati Agnihotri, Vijayashanthi, Revathi, Karthik, Suganya and many others.
Currently, the lens man is maring his debut on television with the serial Thekathi Ponnu. The serial which has Napolean, Vagai Chandrashekar, Ranjitha, Swarnamalya and a few newcomers will echo the village subject, like his films did. The serial will make its debut at televsion on April 14th the harvest day of Tamil New year.
The director is sure that just like his films, his serial too will capture the hearts of the people. But this does not mean that he has quit films. His next release Bommalattam is expected to hit the screens soon. His next project is Kuttaraparamparai is expected to be a milestone in Tamil Cinema.
