Mithun Chakraborty will be seen playing the much acclaimed role of Amjad Khan in Satte Pe Satta remake. Directed by Raj Sippy, who had created magic in the original version, the remake of this film will be called Satte Pe Satta Phir Se.
Mithun was offered the role of Amitabh Bachchan’s brother in the original which he had refused since he did not want to play second iddle to AB. The role was then bagged by Kanwaljeet Singh. And now after nearly 25 years, Mithun is back for the remake of the same.
It’s said that Raj Sippy had originally approached the Bengali actor’s son Mimoh for the role that was played by Sachin in the original. This had made Mithunda very happy. But when he asked Mithun to play the role of Amjad Khan, the actorappearedecstatic.
Raj Sippy confirming the news said, “Yes I am planning to cast Mithun in this role. I feel he will do justice to the role.”Talking about the film, Daddu (As Raj Sippy is popularly known) continued, “The remake will have a slight change in the characters. Unlike Satte Pe Satta, which was a story of seven brothers, the remake will have four brothers and three sisters. However, I still have to finalise the cast. I am keen on having Rani (Mukerji) for Hema’s role and Vidya Balan for Ranjeeta’s. I still have to approach them though.”
Satte Pe Satta was an adaptation of the Hollywood hit Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. A close source said, “It was Sanju (Sanjay Dutt) who came up with the idea of a remake. Sanju was Raj’s obvious choice for the lead role that was played by Bachchan in the original.”
Raj Sippy confirmed the same saying, “Sanju and I had several meetings to discuss the film. We have already worked out the major details and only have to seal the deal. We share a very good rapport. I was his director in Thanedaar and we always got along well. Sanju is perfect for the role of a 40-plus bachelor.”
The original was exciting and fresh. Will the director be able to recreate the same magic this time around? We can only wait and watch.
