Bujjigadu - Telugu Movie Review

June - 11 - 2008

Bujji (Prabhas) and Chitti (Trisha) are good friends during their childhood. He had a small scuffle with Chitti and the latter tells him not talk to her and she doesn’t want to see his face. Then Bujji goes to Chennai and after staying their for over 12 years returns to Vizag to meet his childhood friend Chitti. On the other side, Sivanna (Mohanbabu) is a local mafia don and Machi Reddy (Kota Srinivasa Rao) runs a rival gang in Hyderabad. On his way to Vizag, Bujji had an incidental clash with someone and the police keep him in jail. Incidentally, Machi Reddy’s sons meet Bujji there and gives him a contract to kill Sivanna for Rs 1 crore. However, their plan foils and Bujji gets thrashed in the hands of Sivanna’s gang. Some how, Sivanna had a soft corner towards Bujji and after noticing his guts to attack him, Sivanna employs him in his gang and takes him to his home. There, Bujji comes to know that Chitti is the sister of Sivanna. Did Bujji continue his efforts to kill Sivanna by staying with him? Did Chitti come to know that Bujji was his childhood friend and loves him? How far Machi Reddy’s efforts to kill Sivanna become fruitful? Answers to all these questions form part of the climax and had to be watched on the silver screen.

Prabhas gave a superb performance with high energy. He sported a complete new look with six-pack body. He improved his body language well and really did very hard work to improve his performance. Undoubtedly, he gave the best performance in his career in this movie. Trisha also gave an impressive performance, but she appeared dull in some scenes. Mohanbabu played a fantastic role in the movie and did complete justice to his character. He should be complimented for doing one such role. (Sorry to mention that Puri failed to elevate the character to suit his image). Sanjana looked very cute and played the sister of Trisha, but had not much role to play in the movie. Kota Srinivasa Rao, Sunil, Ali, Subbaraju, Satyam Rajesn and MS Narayana are adequate in their roles.

When it comes to the behind the screen crew, Puri Jagannath once again succeeded to run a film without any gripping story. The entire storyline is waferthin. He once again proved that screenplay was his forte and he could ensure movement of any kind of subject with his gripping screenplay. At a time when the director was losing grip on the story, he was able to make the audiences overcome the boredom. He took the help of editor Varma in cutting short the story to 2 hour 25 minutes, which helped the audiences feel relaxed. Puri needs to be appreciated for the excellent characterisation of the hero and his talent in extracting good performance from him. Shyam K Naidu once again proved that he could capture the beauties with his camera and make them a visual feast, especially during the songs sequences. He was also able to capture the six-pack body of Prabhas in an action scene. Art work by Chinna is okay while Vijayan did a superb job in choreographing the action scenes. The interval bang is also nice. Varma did a nice job as an editor, while Sandeep Choutha’s music is just okay and adequate. He could have put some more effort to give a better music. Dialogues by Puri were also good to listen and evoked good response.

The entire first half goes with entertaiment and the director devoted most of the time for the characterisation of hero Prabhas to elevate his image. The film had no twists but ran very smoothly. In a nutshell, it was Prabhas who took the entire responsibility to run the show. The second half is little slow and it picks up during the last 20 minutes. The film sans logic and many scenes appeared cinematic. If you want to watch Prabhas in a fresh look, it is an yes movie to watch and enjoy the film. As a whole it is just a timepass film at the end of summer and worth watching.
