It was the music launch of Aziz Mirza’s Kismet Konnection. The film has already created ripples a few days ago when there was a media jamboree while shooting a promo for the film. The excitement in the air is palpable as Pritam has been on roll lately. Not to forget Shahid Kapoor and Pritam created sheer magic with the music of Jab We Met.
But coming back to Kismet Konnection. Aziz Mirza is present at the appointed hour being his usual charming diplomatic self. The younger directors can learn a lesson or two from him. He really knows how to woo his well-wishers. But long after the scheduled hour, there is no sign of Shahid Kapoor. The media is waiting patiently but since Shahid has entered the top league they really don’t have much of a choice.
Almost three hours after the scheduled hour the event finally takes off. Vidya apologises profusely for the delay, blaming the traffic as usual. Shahid is nonchalant and mumbles something about not being given the correct time. Oh, the privileges of being a star!
But then suddenly the venue is abuzz with activity. Ramesh Taurani (Tips) Abbas Mastan (Race) are also on stage. Pritam joins them, and then so do the singers then Aziz Mirza’s son Haroon is also on stage till the stage is almost as crowded as the venue. But the mood is upbeat. A few clippings and trailers are revealed to the audience.
The film going by the little we saw has a very Karan Johar kind of feel to it. It has been shot almost entirely in Canada and since Mirza’s son Haroon is the co-director so the film seems to be fun love story. Overlook the fact that Vidya looks a few years older to Shahid especially in the close-ups and their chemistry seems to work.
The song promos revealed the music to be typically Pritam. Peppy and most of the numbers sound alike. Shahid’s dancing skills have been exploited to the fullest. But this is the first big budget ‘young lovers romance’ film of 2008. And it just might turn out to be one of the biggest hits this year.
