Prateik Babbar not worried at being overshadowed by Imran Khan

July - 15 - 2008

Prateik Babbar , the surprise element in the just released Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na , cast alongside Aamir Khan ’s nephew Imran Khan says he does not feel concerned about Khan getting all the limelight.

Son of veteran actors Raj Babbar and the late Smita Patil, Prateik in his debut film is pitted against Khan who has been launched as the lead actor and being promoted by his uncle.

While most star-sons daughters get launched with big hype, this young lad prefers to let his work do all the talking.

People may just dismiss his launchpad as not the ideal one, but Prateik doesn’t mind it at all. “I just don’t care. I have done my bit and rest is for the audience to decide,” he says.

And word is also doing rounds that daddy Raj was not happy with his debut vehicle and he clarifies, “Yeah he was not happy with it as I didn’t consult him on this. But later after seeing my work he is fine with it.”

So what role does he play in the film and he tells, “The character’s name is Amit Wadia. He is someone who has had a troubled childhood. That troubled background of his, makes him very arrogant and laid back. He is also an introvert and doesn’t like talking to too many people. He paints once in a while and has a pet mouse. His parents are always worried about him, if he is going in the right track or if he is doing something wrong. Beyond that I guess, it’s best that you watch the film and see for yourself.”

When asked if he ever feels being overshadowed by Imran Khan and he rubbishes it off completely saying, “I don’t care rather I don’t even think on these lines.”

“Initially I wanted to be a cricketer though. I was quite good at cricket. I was a pace bowler and a pinch-hitter like Irfan Pathan. Due to some reason I quit playing in my 12th grade. But acting was always an aspiration.”

On a different note, Prateik also finds enough competition in Bollywood, but he also feels that “it’s good as it helps you grow as an actor and as a person.”

And while talking about his dream roles, Prateik says, “I would love to do a role like what Vivek Oberoi did in Company and Shootout At Lokhandwala . I would also love to do some dark stuff like Kaante .”

So what’s on the agenda after ‘Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na’? “That’s something which I would not like to tell you now as the surprise element won’t be there. I am doing a theatre workshop with my mom and sister’s Ekjute Theatre Group. After that I really don’t know what I am planning to do next.”

And where does he see himself five years down the line and what can the audience expect from him and he tells,” As a good person in better shape. Also you can expect me to see playing the main lead in a film very soon and you can also expect me to change my name.”
