Ullasamga Utsahamga - Telugu Movie Review

July - 31 - 2008

Dhanalakshmi (Sneha Ullal) and Balaji are friends. After the death of Dhana’s mother, her father (Prasadbabu) marries another woman (Kavita) and Dhana gets a humiliating treatment from her stepmother. After the death of Dhana’s father, he treatment turns worse and Dhana used to get solace from Balaji. However, Balaji also leaves the village as his father gets transferred, when she was in Tenth Class. As Dhana’s father wills his property in the name of Dhana, her stepmother wants her to get married to a person which is loyal to her to bequeath the property.  So, Dhana skips from her house as she doesn’t want to marry against her wish and she feels that she was in love with Balaji and takes shelter in her friend’s house. Aravind (Yasho Sagar), son of a mechanic (Chandramohan) meets Dhana and falls in love with her. Once Dhana’s stepmother comes to know that she was in Hyderabad and tries to take her away, but Aravind prevents her attempt. Dhana believes Aravind as a good friend and tells him about Balaji and her friendship with him. She refuses to love Aravind as she was already in love with Balaji. Incidentally, Dhana comes to know that Balaji was in Kolkata. Aravind too plans to search a job in Kolkata with the help of his brother-in-law. Did Dhana finds Balaji? Did Aravind help Dhana in Kolkata to find Balaji? What happened to the love between Aravind and Dhana? Answers to all these questions form part of the climax.

Yasho Sagar did a good job despite the fact that he was a debutant. Though his body language needs a drastic change, he was good in showing facial expressions. At the same time, he showed flexibility in dances. Sneha Ullal, being an experienced artiste, put up a good performance. She had the similarities of Aishwarya Rai in her facial expressions. At the same time, in some angles, she reminded Sneha and Navneet Kaur. She cooperated well with the debutant hero. All the senior artistes did justice to their respective roles. Once again Brahmanandam gave a brilliant performance, while the comedy by Dharmavarapu and Sobharani is good to watch. Suman Setty, Sunil and Venumadhav also entertained the audiences well.

Music by GV Prakash Kumar is the major asset of the film. All the songs were tuned well and their choreography was also well taken care of. With simple steps, both the hero and heroine showed nice performance and their chemistry gelled well. Cinematography by Andrew should have been a little better and the use of digital intermediate technology in a couple of songs elevated the scenes. Marthand K Venkatesh should have trimmed some more scenes in the first half. Dialogues by Chintapalli Ramana are okay. The major draw back is the poor screenplay in the film. The director failed to maintain pace in an equal ratio in the movie. It went slow at times and ran in some other scenes. It appeared that the director had lost perfect on the script. He should have concentrated more on the hero to elevate his heroism. The movement of the story appeared a little old-fashioned. But for the few twists the film has not much impressive scenes.

In the absence of mass-attractive elements and masala scenes, the film may not attract the crowds. The success of the film depends on the mouth publicity and how far the family crowds attract towards the film. As a whole, the film really did not meet the expectations though the promos on the small screen appeared promising. Can be seen once and don’t need to feel sorry even if it was ignored.
