Kuselan – Best of its kind

If you ever thought about getting something unexpectedly big from Rajnikanth, well you have it here with Kuselan. This flick has Rajnikanth depicted sans punch dialogues, hitting 40 baddies at a time and of course an unusual film from superstar. Director P.Vasu excels with his ability of churning out a remake without spoiling the original version of Kadhaparayumbol. Well, its Srinivasan is the man of appreciation who wins accolades for his heart-binding story centering on true friendship.

The film is about Bala Krishnan (Pasupathy), a barber whose business is so deplorable yet lives up with dignity. His wife Sreedevi (Meena) and three school-going kids are his happiness and despites their pathetic situation of poverty, they lead an elated peaceful life..

With his business doing well, situations are tougher ever since his assistant Shanmugham (Vadivelu) opens a well-furnished Beauty Salon with latest accessories. Unable to pay the school fees, Balan’s children are thrown out of school and now we have a film crew arriving in the town for a shooting and hero of the film is none other than Superstar Ashok Raj (Rajnikanth).

Ashok Raj and Bala Krishnan are childhood friends and this news spreads more vividly among the town. The situations are different now as everyone in the neighborhood is ready on their heels of helping Balan, but for a favor. All that they want from him is to get them introduced to Ashok Raj… But Balan is quite unwilling to approach Ashok thinking whether Ashok Raj would remember him.

Does Balan manages to meet Ashok Raj or not forms crux of the story?

Well, what makes Kuselan so different from original version is glorifying Rajnikanth to the uttermost level that wasn’t there in original version, since it focus remained completely on the lines of friendship. But, P.Vasu wins accolades by presenting the flick adding commercial elements. Right from the beginning, the film has a mix of comedy-emotions and last 20mins is sure to make you stunned with Superstar’s performance (Your eyes are sure to get soaked in tears). He hasn’t cried so really after his super hit yesteryear movie ‘Aarilirundhu Aruvadhu’. Pasupathy strides along with realistic action and makes us feel for his character when he is insulted by his own children and wife doubting on him whether he is a close friend of Superstar or not?

As in Chandramukhi, Rajnikanth-Vadivelu combo rocks and you know something these two characters encounter in only one scene and that has the best out of Vadivelu’s action. His excitement of meeting superstar for the first time and his reactions down there will trickle your ribs. Meena has come up with same performance she spelled out in the original version while the kids do justice to their roles and since is sure to attract women audiences.

Prabhu appearing as security officer has nothing to do with the film and his role is completely irrelevant as it happens in the case of Nayanthara. P.Vasu has utilized Nayanthara for the skin-shows and tripping her toes with Superstar Rajnikanth.

Straight-from-the-shoulder, Superstar utters his answers for the questions that the entire world wanted to figure on  reason lying beneath his visit to Himalayas, whether he has plans of getting into politics or not? Why does actors like Kamal Haasan show off in the public? Sudarajan pins down this question only get reverted with streak answers from the actor.

Getting on with technical aspects, G.V. Prakash has tuned in melodies of different genres. Melodious number, ‘Sollu Sollu’ makes us hum for the tunes while ‘Cinema Cinema’ goes bit disappointing with the visuals delivered by cinematographer Aravind Krishna. But, he rocks through the entire film with his captivating shots using different tones, for the scenes involving Pasupathy and Rajnikanth. Hats off to him, for the tremendous presentation of visuals and it happen to be best highlights in the film.

On the whole, Kuselan is a movie that will make you fall in love with Superstar personified with simplicity, humbleness and an entity who worships his friends. This film is worth-watching for all the centres and we congratulate our superstar for coming up with a film that has lots and lots of proverbs about friendship.
