It was a surprise birthday gift for Sudeep. The news is that Ram Gopal Varma who directed Sudeep’s first Hindi film PHOONK is all set to start its sequel which has been titled as Phoonk 2. Phoonk has really given a fillip to Ramgopal Varma’s career which was bogged down by many failures in recent months. The maverick film-maker’s career has now on an unswing with the super success of PHOONK.
“The best thing about this genre is that you can keep experimenting with varied themes. Supernatural themes will never go out of vogue as long as the fear of the unknown exists.” says Ram Gopal Verma who has done many Horror films including Bhooth which also became a big hit.
Sudeep had attended the success meet of this film on August 26. Phoonk which was released on August 22 with a moderate budget is expected to touch a business of around Rs. thirty crores and its openings have been exceptionally good. The trade was surprised over such huge openings for the film which had many unknown stars to Bollywood including our own Sudeep. But with the success of Phoonk, Sudeep has gained some stature in Hindi films too.
PHOONK 2 will begin where PHOONK ended. The climax of PHOONK witnessed the clash of good [Sudeep and tantrik Zakir Hussain] versus evil [Ashwini Kalsekar, who does black magic on Sudeep's daughter] and how the tantrik eliminates Ashwini. Now PHOONK 2 will begin with Ashwini Kalsekar’s ghost killing the tantrik [Zakir Hussain] at the very start and entering Sudeep’s wife’s [Amruta Khanvilkar] body.
