New bond movie scores british box office record

New JAMES BOND film QUANTUM OF SOLACE smashed U.K. box office records on its opening day on Friday (31Oct08), taking $7.9 million (GBP4.9 million) in ticket sales.

The movie, which stars Daniel Craig, broke the record for a Friday release, which was previously held by 2005 film Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. The fantasy adventure raked in $6.5 million (GBP4 million) upon its November 2005 debut.

Opening day takings for Quantum of Solace also surpassed 2006 Bond film, Casino Royale, which took $4.7 million (GBP2.9 million) on its first day in British cinemas.
