Terrorism effects bollwood

December - 3 - 2008

The deadly terrorist attacks and siege in Mumbai is having its fallout in Bollywood. The newly released films are doing poorly at the box-office and parties and weddings have been canceled or postponed.

The immediate Bollywood casualties of the three-day siege have been the two new releases – Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! and Sorry Bhai , both of which have had a dismal run because people just don’t seem to be in the mood to catch movies at theatres. And then, the much-awaited Live Earth concert in Mumbai, scheduled for December first week, was canceled.

Now, people in the film industry are either canceling or delaying all the occasions that called for celebration because they deem it unfit to celebrate at a time when not just Mumbai but the entire nation is mourning the loss of lives in the attacks that is being called the ‘9/11 of India’.

Ayesha Takia was supposed to marry her longtime boyfriend, restaurateur Farhan Azmi, on December 25. But now, the marriage has been postponed by about six months. Ayesha will now tie the knot in the middle of 2009 and that too in a low-key wedding ceremony.

Since Ayesha plans to quit the film industry after her marriage, she has been busy shooting her three films – Wanted Dead And Alive , Eight By Ten and Paathshala . But with the postponing of her wedding, she can perhaps now do one more film before getting married.

On the other hand, Tusshar Kapoor had plans to throw a lavish party for the success of Golmaal Returns . But the actor has now canceled the bash even though he wasn’t in Mumbai at the time of the terrorist attacks but was in Cape Town shooting for a film.

The buzz from B-town is that the film fraternity also won’t celebrate the coming of the New Year and many parties that were planned on December 31 have now been cancelled.

The prevailing mood in the film industry is unanimous – now’s the time to bereave, not celebrate.
