Many Bollywood celebrities were linked, married and split without their own knowledge by the overactive rumour mills that kept churning out one incredible gossip after another in a year that wasn’t.
If rumours were to be believed in the year 2008, Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif ought to have split by now, and Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor ought to be married and probably expecting their first baby as well. Amisha Patel , according to gossipmongers, should have been on a Swiss honeymoon by the end of this year, while Deepika Padukone should have been nursing her heartbreak after Ranbir Kapoor dumped her for…ahem…a senior actress.
Relentless gossips hogged the media and assailed the curious and inquisitive movie buffs throughout 2008.
Right at the beginning of the year (in Jan) came the reports quoting “reliable sources†that Salman had slapped Katrina publicly when the two went for a coffee at a Barista restaurant. Later, when Katrina was photographed leaning too close to Akshay Kumar at an IPL match, the rumours mills changed gears and alleged that something was indeed brewing between the gorgeous actress and the much-married Akki.
It was also reported by sources (reliable as ever) that Salman had gone hopping mad after seeing the snapshots of Kat’s closeness to Akki and had stopped talking to her. Elaborate obituaries of the Salman-Katrina love story were written as rumour after rumour flooded the tabloids and continue to do till this day. The latest one is that Katrina is getting attracted to Ranbir Kapoor while filming Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani and causing a rift between him and Deepika. Digest this!
While the rumourmongers were harsh on Salman-Katrina, they were a little too meherbaan on Saif and Kareena. The two were married off by media early this year and were too shocked to learn about their own secret marriage from the tabloids. Their wedding date was fixed more than once by the proverbial wagging tongues. And now that Saif and Kareena are set to live together in the same apartment, a buzz is in the air that the marriage is on the cards. Rest assured ‘the date’ will be out soon.
Similarly, Amisha Patel was married off to her beau Kanav Puri a few weeks back. In fact, one website even published a morphed image of the couple with wedding garlands around their necks. Another website went on to say that they had even booked plane tickets for a honeymoon in the Alps. Forget Alps, Amisha has not even crossed the Aravallis ever since the piece of gossip came.
However, rumours of marriage between a couple in love is not as discomforting as the grapevine of romance between two co-stars. The Shahid Kapur and Vidya Balan love story was scripted and directed with many twists in the gossip columns even as the coupled kept crying hoarse that they were just two co-stars who got along well. In fact, Vidya has been linked with every hero she was worked with – be it John Abraham or Akshay Kumar . The same goes for Shahid. First he was allegedly dating Amrita Rao , then Vidya Balan and now Priyanka Chopra who’s paired with him in Vishal Bhardwaj’s Kaminay .
Now, even as we try to digest this incredible gossip, there’s a new buzz about a “new woman†in Shahid’s life. And she’s none other than the executive producer of ‘Kaminay’, Mubina Rattonsey, a woman who has been happily married for the last six years.
Gosh!
