Padikadhavan – Worthy to be debarred
Eventually, like 2008 this year too begins with bit of disappointments as the most anticipated flicks are dashing down our hopes. If Villu goes an extreme, here is ‘Padikadhavan’ with same results. Watching this film could be a terrible experience. An actor enacting with similar roles from film to film can be regarded for 2-3 flicks, but Dhanush has been adhered to similar roles of a disobedient son, uneducated lad falling in love with a filthy rich, well educated girl.
It happened to be the same scenarios in ‘Devadhayai Kanden’, ‘Polladhavan’, ‘Thiruvilaiyadal’ and ‘Yaaradi Nee Mohini’. Alas! We don’t have patience to watch the similar thing over, that too with an annoying script and sluggish screenplay.
‘Pathetic’ –The film happens to be so with unconvincing factors, more precisely with stunts. Please Directors don’t make your heroes larger than lives. Dhanush smashing down biggies with hefty physique is something that urges to run out of theatres within first 30mins of the film. Naturally, another factor that makes you feel annoyed for the first half is that there’s nothing you special we see for the first 45mins…. Sooraj has tried shaping a gripping screenplay that goes contrastive when on screens.
Radha Krishnan, whose birthday is observed as Teachers Day was known to be the most fantastic well educated personality in our Nation. Alas! Our protagonist (Dhanush) carrying the same name happens to be the only uneducated guy in his entire house loaded with his relatives who are on higher positions. First of all, this is an extreme absurdity to see that at this point of IT Era, none of the guys avoid education. Maybe, we could have accepted this if Sooraj had made this film before a decade. What follows next is the story of Radha Krishnan falling in love with a beautiful, well-educated girl (Thamannah). Right from the beginning of the film, there’s a strange group of baddies following Radhakrishnan aka Rocky, but it’s right during intermission, we get to witness that they are not after him, but his ladylove (Thamannah). Her father happens to be a bigwig (Suman) in Andhra Pradesh whose rivalry is another biggie (Shayaji Shinde). Perhaps, this may be the backdrop, but there’s something more on Rocky who was accidentally a cause for murder that gets unraveled in the latter half.
Of course, the plotline is quite exceptional, but worst screenplays with already-seen factors are the drawbacks. Unbelievable stunts are something ludicrous while Thamannah’s role has been washed out though she’s got an important role to play. Dhanush can better opt for good scripts and if continues to take up similar offers, he’s there on witnessing big flops like ‘Sullan’.
Suman does a decent job and Atul Kulkarni is over the top appearing in first and last 15mins of the film. Vivek’s comedy track is commendable, but it’s so evident that they are tailored for Vadivelu and not him. Pratap Pothan has been wasted out on his minimal role.
Musical score by Mani Sharma is something mediocre and none of them cater to the tastes of frontbenchers too. Cinematography by Venkatesh and editing offers no visual enhancements for the film.
On the whole, ‘Padikadhavan’ disappoints audiences who earnestly anticipated the film to be a commercial entertainer.
