Luck By Chance – Fantabulous but sluggish in narration
Whatever may be films made, when it’s about ‘Fashion’ and ‘Bollywood’, nothing can stop audiences from dropping into the theatres… Month back, it was more evident with Madhur Bandharkar’s Fashion that swept of everyone’s attention. When everyone, expected it would be a show full of glitz and glamour, the filmmaker came up with a different dimension of ‘Behind the stage’ Formulas of shocks and surprisals of Indian audiences. Likewise, here goes ‘Luck By Chance’, a film that doesn’t alone deal with ‘Cameras’ and ‘Actions’, but something more than it. The film blends us with ‘Behind The Scenes’ factors of more realities that’s mostly off darker shades.
As the title suggests ‘Luck By Chance’ is about individuals’ destiny in tinsel town of lucks and misfortunes…
The film is about Sona (Konkona Sen Sharma) who arrives in Mumbai with dreams of making it big in Bollywood as a top-charting actress. Well being ambitious alone, doesn’t help her succeed. She’s a struggling actress not even getting an opportunity of a parallel heroine role. Indeed, an independent girl by nature, she leads a pleasant life with few friends involved in Bollywood. Then enters Vikram (Farhan Akhtar) from Delhi leaving his parents behind for becoming a superstar. Don’t expect him to keep roaming here and there at the door steps of producers’ home and studios. Vikram is so brilliant that he knows his own smart ways of hitting bull’s eyes. With two characters on contrastive approach, both get attracted and then start a romantic relationship.
A big time producer Rolly (Rishi Kapoor) gears up for a blockbuster with Superstar Zaffar Khan (Hrithik Roshan) and alluring 18yr old actress Nikki Khurana (Isha Sharwani), daughter of 70s Superstar Neena (Dimple Kapadia) in lead role. Zaffar Khan was launched by Roll and turns to be the superstar and now doesn’t want to go for this project. Amidst of the shooting, he backs off and the fate lets producers to take a look at Vikram’s portfolios. And now, he’s there on the reel as the hero. It’s all about Luck as the title says.
A perfect casting in the film sets out to be the main asset. None have been wasted out on their roles. Farhan Akhtar is seen with a much enhanced role than his previous ‘Rock On’. Well, being an established director would really urge him for more perfection. Konkona Sen Sharma is so stunning that she keeps making it big throughout the show. She doesn’t let anyone to eclipse her. Especially, she’s outstanding at her final conversation with Farhan at shooting spots. Rishi Kapoor is brilliant enacting the role of a pathetic producer. In times of his trouble, pain and victorious moods, he’s great and keeps winning your applause. Hrithik Roshan as Zaffar Khan does it with finesse and it makes us doubt whether any leading star in Kollywood would boldly accept his role. Sanjay Kapoor and Juhi Chawla fetch the best credits with naturalistic performance. Fine! Getting on with many stars (Aamir, John Abraham, Ranbir Kapoor, Shah Rukh Khan and more), they’re really great. Amongst them Shah Rukh Khan makes it big with his few minutes appearance during climax.
Musical score by Shankar-Ehasan-Loy isn’t like their previous hit of ‘Rock On’. Only couple of songs does favors to audiences with best presentation. Background score is off mediocre and Carlos Catalan’s cinematography is top-notching with different shades and colors according to situations. Javed Akhtar’s dialogues are spellbinding. Debutant Zoya Akhtar lets us go through an interesting screenplay in the first half. However, she get stuck in moving the script in latter half. Preferably, she could’ve trimmed few portions in the second half. However, an unexpected climax erases the flawed parts from our memories.
As a whole, Luck By Chance will make a good opening throughout for first couple of weeks. Yeah! You don’t have any big releases slated till Feb 13 (Billu Barber and then Delhi-6). Moreover, it’s a film worth watching with more enjoyable parts.
