With just four days to go for the Oscars, critics are voicing their opinions about their bets for this year’s wins.
This year’s Academy Award nominees for best actor are an interesting mix – with stars Sean Penn and Brad Pitt on one hand, and first time nominees Richard Jenkins, Frank Langella, and Mickey Rourke on the other. So who are the critics betting on this year?
Film Critic Scott Mantz, , “It’s a toss up between Sean Penn for Milk and Mickey Rourke for The Wrestler. Mickey Rourke couldn’t even open an envelope a year ago and now he gave such a grueling, physically and emotionally grueling performance in The Wrestler.â€
Mickey Rourke who also picked up the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Actor seems to be the frontrunner in this category.
And for the leading ladies it’s a tough race with Meryl Streep, Kate Winslet, and Anne Hathaway in the running. Though competition includes Angelina Jolie and Melissa Leo, Anne believes that Meryl Streep is on her way to win her third Academy Award.
Anne Hathaway says, “When Meryl Streep has a film come out, you basically step aside and applaud the greatest one who ever lived. So, I’m not expecting anything because there’s really nothing to expect when she’s in play.
However, with Kate Winslet winning the Golden Globe for her performance in Revolutionary Road and the BAFTA for The Reader, the actress definitely has an edge.
Meanwhile critics also back Anne’s performance in Rachel Getting Married
Mantz says, “I think the Oscar is going to go to either Kate Winslet for The Reader, and maybe even Anne Hathaway for Rachel Getting Married.
Let’s hope the best man and woman wins.
