Dhoondte Reh Jaaoge, inspired heavily by the Hollywood movie The Producers, is a mindless comedy starring Paresh Rawal, Sonu Sood, Kunal Khemu, Soha Ali Khan and Johnny Lever.
3 years back, Paresh Rawal comedies would open big at the box-office. His name alone would guarantee a good initial (Malamaal Weekly, Hungama). Times have changed and after a few poor roles and box-office disasters, Paresh is no longer the draw he once was. Can the first directed by Umesh Shukla turn things around for the brilliant actor?
The concept is simple, brilliant, unique and guaranteed to work,’ says Anand Pawar (Kunal Khemu) an honest Charted Accountant but looser in life, to Raj Chopra (Paresh Rawal), a veteran film Producer with no money. All they need to do is raise 100 Crore from various financers and produce the film in 5 Crore. They would then make a film that will never work, a film that will be hooted out on the first day itself and run away with 95 Crore. They want to become instant millionaires in the shortest time possible!
In an effort to produce a flop film they rope in superstar Aryan Kapoor ( Sonu Sood) as the lead, they also rope in Parvez Asharraf (Johny Lever) as a writer, who is Pro Pakistan and many other weird and wacky actors, director, music directors for the film.
Anand Pawar becomes so greedy that he decides to cheat on his own girl friend Neha Chattopadhayay ( Soha Ali Khan) who is a small time theatre actress. Anand casts her as the lead actress in the film so that, the disastrous film they make, will end her acting ambitions.
Director Umesh Shukla tries hard to make you laugh in this over the top comedy, he succeeds at times but the jokes tend to get really irritating as the reels unfold. The film reminds you of the very recent Luck By Chance, as Dhoondte Reh Jaaoge is basically a funny spoof on Bollywood. The only difference is Luck By Chance was a very realistic and well made film on the industry, while Dhoondte is more like an Om Shanti Om with extremely poor production values.
Having said that if illogical comedies, with an outright silly storyline are your cup of tea, you probably might end up liking the film. The credit for which should go to the cast and the dialogue writers.
The film belongs to Paresh Rawal and Kunal Khemu. Paresh is brilliant with his comic timing. Kunal Khemu looks his part and delivers his funny dialogues very well. Sonu Sood continues to impress after his stellar performance in Jodhaa Akbar. Soha Ali Khan does well.. Johnny Lever in a short role is entertaining.
To Sum Up, Dhoondte Reh Jaaoge had potential to be a much better film. It’s not worth the price of your ticket. Wait for the DVD or television premiere.
