For the first time in it’s 62 year history, the Cannes Film Festival kicked off with screening of an animation film Pixar’s 3-D animation. UP did the honours on Wednesday night and set the ball rolling for this 12-day film festival in the South of France.
While actress arrived on the red carpet, Sharmila Tagore in a simple green sari as part of the festival jury, we also spotted Cannes regular Aishwarya Rai Bachchan dressed in a strapless white Armani Prive gown hubby Abhishek in tow.
Aishwarya Rai said, “I am regular at Cannes and it is a great experience.”
Others on the red carpet including actress Tilda Swinton, Elizabeth Banks and Festival jury President French actress Isabelle Huppert.
Many big-name filmmakers including Quentin Tarantino, Pedro Almodovar, Jane Campion and Lars Von Trier will be unveiling their films at Cannes this year.
Though no Indian films have been selected to be part of the festival, Hrithik Rohan’s Kites and Akshay Kumar – Kareena Kapoor starrer Kambhaqt Ishq are among the Hindi films that will be promoted for the world market at Cannes.
