Thoranai – Again a flimsy flick
What’s really wrong with Vishal? A billion dollar question indeed! We’re sure something must be really perplexing to his senses. Despite his previous film ‘Satyam’ happening to be a terrific flop, he hasn’t stopped getting away from overdosed commercial elements. Thoranai is a simple story with unlimited punch dialogues, lots and lots of stunts of yesteryear Tollywood style (1 Man Vs 30 Bullies), heroine appearing in much-distressing costumes for romance and Kuthu songs and finally, a social message that our hero delivers; If you’re sure about bearing this, then go ahead watch this film.
But here’s something that was much noticeable herein first day first show. The audiences are running out of theatres much before the climax. Then imagine how this flick would be.
Murugan (Vishal), a jolly-going youngster coming to Chennai in search of his lost brother Ganeshan who ran away from his town due to his mother’s severe treatment. But much before he’s introduced, couple of bigwigs in mafia are revealed; Tamizharasan (Prakash Raj) and Guru (Kishore). On his mission of searching his brother, Murugan comes across these kingpins of underground dealing with lots of clashes. But Murugan is unaware that one amongst them is his brother.Â
Alas! Everything is ridiculous in this flick right from the beginning till the end. Looks like Saba Ayyappan hasn’t laid his hands over the script and it’s all duo brother Vishal-Vikram Krishna penning everything. The film travels with more heroism that are made fun right from the frontbenchers. Please grow up filmmakers! How can an ordinary youngster (although hefty in looks) can walk straightaway into horrendous gangsters’ and minister’s house without being stopped by anyone… Are the securities sleeping 24/7?
Every time Vishal keeps uttering a punch dialogue, they’re so ludicrous. Of course, Prakash Raj stating ‘Dae Naan Aaru (6) Vayasilayae Appana Kola Panna Vanda (I killed my dad at the age of 6), Naan Panna Kolaikku Enikkeya Illa Da (I have committed countless murders), it’s again more headaches caused. On the pars, Kishore has a dozen of punch dialogues and Vishal too.
Likewise, these three characters keep getting on with hand-in-hand combat of punch dialogues more than fights. How long will the producer spend money on TATA SUMOS and BOLEROS for henchmen? And much than all, why do they stop their cars and run on roads to chase the hero when their vehicle is alright?
Vishal has to answer lot of questions…
Shriya is completely absurd and if she has plans about doing similar roles in future, she can better retire and settle down with TV Mega serials. Prakash Raj and Kishore have nothing to do other than clashing with each other.
Comedy quotient are quite commendable and all the credit goes to Santhanam, Mayilsamy, Aarthi and Paravai Muniamma.
None of the songs are worthy heeding to. Editing is quite amateurish and we don’t know the reason why every time camera’s tone changes during police-gang encounter sequences.
On the whole, it is better to avoid the show. If you wanna waste your time… go ahead…
