Director Imtiaz Ali’s Love Aaj Kal will hit theatres in July and lead stars Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone have been busy promoting the movie in London. The duo spoke about their upcoming modern-day love story.
This romantic comedy is about a modern-day London based couple Jai and Meera. Life pulls them in different directions, which is a true test of commitment and they decide to be practical.
Love Aaj Kal also marks Saif’s entry into the industry as a producer and he decided to play it safe with his first production.
“A love story we thought was the most commercial choice to start with. But at the same time, the story and the things that happen to the couple in question, their discovery of their love for eachother, the language, the dialogue, and even the screenplay are far more real than the films I’m used to working in,” said Saif.
The film’s narrative style draws parallels between two love stories – one set in the 1960s and the other in the new millennium.
“Earlier people would write a letter or travel miles to see a loved one but nowadays you can send an SMS or there is even the option of video conferencing,” said Deepika.
Love Aaj Kal also stars Rishi Kapoor in an important role. Deepika spoke about acting with boyfriend Ranbir’s father.
“The one or two scenes I had with him I’ll never forget. He is not only worried about his lines and his character but he is there for the entire scene and taking care of what everyone is does,” she said.
