Mutthirai – Interesting theme flimsily done
Director Jeeva’s team seems to be much similar on their working style. Lots of songs all throughout the film despites serious situations and unconnected and no prominence provided to the film’s theme. ‘Mutthirai’ has a good script on the papers and yet Aneez Jeeva doesn’t seem to have penned a powerful screenplay with interesting plots. Until the first half, you don’t have any guesses on what’s going on and patently in the next-to-last 30mins you’ll feel the abrupt change in pace with some interesting parts.
Azhagu (Daniel Balaji) is the most stunning thief who befriends with a petty thief Satya (Nithin Satya) in a pub as he saves him from trouble. They’ve their own girlfriends and complete first half moves with situations pertaining to it. On the pars, there’s a serious political murder of Chief Minister by his own brother. On the parallel tracks, we get to watch a stranger blackmailing someone about an unknown substance. These characters come across each other at a serious juncture.
It’s an interesting story alike few Hollywood films, isn’t? Of course, it had some resemblance of ‘Alibaba’. Aneez Jeeva getting on with creative direction should’ve corrected few flaws like planting the twists. It nearly takes a long time for the actual story to start, say for last 45mins.
Daniel Balaji excels with an impressive job while Nithin Satya is up on his clichéd show. Lakshmi Rai looks bit stylish while Manchari should yet more try something more enhancing. Kishore, Ponvannan, Anand, Prajan have done justice to their roles while the revealing their actual characterizations in climax is a stunning attempt.
Musical score by Yuvan Shankar Raja is best on both songs and background score. Cinematography by Salim is a commendable work.
The negative traits are about the screenplay that doesn’t evoke interests in the first half and more songs.
On the whole, it’s a movie you can watch once without any expectations.

It’s fine review but why is it so short and doesn’t brief more about the movie more?
