Oye – Telugu Movie Review
Published on Jul 6 2009

Oye – Fairly attempted by Anand

oyeDebutant Anand patently comes up with a romantic story that slightly carries the traces of Mani Rathnam’s ‘Geethanjali’ as well Hollywood’s famous blockbuster ‘Bucket’s List’. Well, another interesting attribute that turned the spotlights on the film prior to its release was Siddharth’s stylish looks and Shamili’s (Anjali fame Baby) with Yuvan Shankar Raja’s sensational music. Perhaps, the film has a clichéd storyline and the much predictable portions in the latter part just drops down the interests of audiences.

But, it’s a film you can watch once for some interesting elements like fantastic visuals, eye-capturing designs and as mentioned earlier, Yuvan’s sensational music.

The film is about Udhay (Siddarth) a rich young lad who flirts with girls for a short-term pleasure. At the other end, Sandhya (Shamili) who’s a claim type doesn’t believe in any relationships. As usual, the young rich lad falls in love with Sandhya at first sight. On various encounters of making her fall for him, the fille fails to accomplish with it. But Udhay is blown out of waters, when he comes to know that Sandhya is suffering from Cancer and she will not live for a long time.

Siddarth is on with some fantabulous job and looks stylish with his sleek dressings and costumes. But he keeps wearing goggles all throughout the show. Although Shamili is simply average on her looks, she has an attractive face. It’s purely co-incidental about Shamili going dead as in her onscreen debut as child artist in ‘Anjali’. Ali has done justice to his role while Pradeep Rawat’s characterization of Chatrapathi is something off-the-wall attempt by Director Anand.

When it comes to storyline, Anand reveals that it’s being inspired from Erich Segal’s novel ‘Love Story’ that was later made into a flick with the same title. But, the story deviates on certain attributes like absence of father-son relationships and conflicts.

On the technical aspects, Vijay’s cinematography is crème de la crème with grading technology while Yuvan’s songs are wordlessly stupendous. Especially the number ‘Seheni’ is awesome.

Analyzing the film on two halves; the first half moves ahead with Anand introducing the characterizations and puts a big knot on the intermission revealing the suspense. But, it’s too early for the audiences to know about this and indeed the latter half goes around with minute-to-minute of your guesses going right.

On the whole, the film depicts the ‘Tragic Love Story’ and yet has some touching moments with the young guy fulfilling his sweetheart’s dreams and wishes.

You can watch the film and appreciate the innovative takes of Director Anand on many parts.
