Short Kut – Another awful remake in Bollywood

short-kut-the-con-is-onA Kind request to Bollywood filmmakers! Please don’t ever attempt to remake the best works of ace filmmakers. Much recent in times, we have been noticing that Bollywood has been going for the remakes of South Indian Blockbusters that witnesses terribly bad results over there. The biggest illustrations would be with ‘Manichitratazh’ in Malayalam and later ‘Chandramukhi’ in Tamil had pathetic results with ‘Bhool Bhulaiyya’ by Priyadarshan. More than all, the previous week’s Kambakkht Ishq – a remake of Kollywood movie ‘Pammal K Sammadam’ flunked at box office although it had flamboyant ingredients.

Again the same auteur had a bold attempt of remaking Malayalam’s ‘Katha Parayum Pol’ with Shah Rukh that didn’t fetch best appreciations. Looks like producers over there have a wrong idea that spending more lavish money on the sets and bringing in glitz and glamour will yield better results than South Indian versions.

And now, Short Kut – The Con is On:  it’s a remake of ‘Udhayananu Tharam’ that was later remade into Tamil as ‘Vellithirai’. Directors Neeraj Vora and Roshan Andrews assuming themselves to be brilliant have turned them into Hindi version.

Well, the results are same now and it’s again a bad version.

The film is about two strugglers in Bollywood Raju (Arshad Warsi) and Shekar (Akshay Khanna). Raju has dreams of about making big as a superstar while Shekar has his eyes set for the chair of filmmaker. Out of cunningness, Raju steals the script of Shekar, delivers it to the biggest producer and turns to be Superstar of B-Town. But, it’s a pitiable situation for Shekar as situations urge him to get married with leading actress Mansi (Amrita Arora).

And again, destiny pushes both Raju and Shekar to work together again. Will Shekar prove of his potentials and get back on the strike. This forms rest of the film’s portions…

When the film was remade in Tamil as ‘Vellithirai’, there were no shades of brilliant pieces of Original version performed by Srinivasan and Mohan Lal. Likewise, the entire film over here looks so dim-witted with flimsy narration. Looks like Aneez has penned the screenplay with the hope that audiences will accept anything they present.

On the performance, Akshay Khanna does justice to his role as an innocent while Arshad Warsi has a cunning chap lives under the skin of his characterization. But Amrita Arora doesn’t emote properly to any situations and she should learn a lot from acting school.

When it comes to technical aspects, musical score by Shankar- Ehasan- Loy isn’t appealing. On the pars, neither cinematography nor editing helps for film’s strength.

As a whole, Shot Kut – The Con is on has no probabilities of surviving in the box office even it has no competitors in forthcoming weeks.
