Pankaj Kapur, one of the best actors and under-utilized talents in the film industry, is known for the passion he puts into playing his roles in films, whereby he becomes the character on the sets. Shahid Kapur took a cue from his dad’s book while playing the double roles of Guddu and Charlie in the much-awaited film ‘Kaminey’.
Like his father, Shahid too became the character. This has been revealed by Amole Gupte, who plays a villain in the film.
“When Shahid played Guddu, he had to assume Guddu’s stammer. He completely internalised all of the character’s traits, including the stammer so that there’s nothing caricatural about the character,†Gupte, who was the creative director of ‘Taare Zameen Par’, is quoted as saying by a news agency.
Gupte added that unlike other stars who would sneak into their vanity vans after giving their shots, Shahid stayed on the sets.
“He stayed on the set throughout, kept absorbing the ambience, the sweaty milieu in which Guddu and Charlie had to function in their own separate ways. I know Pankaj (Kapur) works the same way. And I truly believe Shahid has inherited Pankaj’s ability and style of performing without seeming to act. It is definitely in his DNA,†Gupte added.
Gupte said he was astonished to see the level of passion in Shahid. It’s the passion that he previously saw in Aamir Khan while working on ‘Taare Zameen Par’.
“This level of passion in a performance comes to an actor after decades, not after three-four years of acting,†he said.
Amole is certain that Shahid will bag many best actor nominations for his performance in ‘Kaminey’.
‘Kaminey’ is one of the most awaited films of the year. Its music, particularly ‘Dhan Te Nan’ is already a hit. But most of all, fans and critics can hardly wait to see what the immensely talented Vishal Bharadwaj has come up with this time.
