Vedigundu Murugesan – Tamil Movie Review

July - 21 - 2009

vedigundu-murugesanPossibly sometimes we ought to think why a filmmaker drifts down to mediocre post-debut directorial. Well, they start off with a commendable take and all of sudden drop down with unexpected deliverance. Merely, Director Moorthy isn’t an elision. He kick-started his directorial venture with ‘Karuppasamy Kuthagaitharar’. The film wasn’t a big hit yet entertained wholesomely. But things turn out to be more pathetic with his second film ‘Vedigundu Murugesan’.

In simple terms, during most of the portions you’ll be nettlesome with ludicrous contents. It really puzzles us down how comes Pasupathy accepted such a flimsy tale. The technical aspects are below average and narration is so weak that will turn audiences away from the screens within short while. But on the pars, there are few appreciable factors like Vadivelu’s comedy tracks and couple of songs. Of course, few sentimental quotients and innovative attempt of narrating the script by Moorthy adds some interesting moments.

Vedigundu Murugesan (Pasupathy), an intellectual-freewheeling man in a town. Supplying waters to the roadside hotels for his ‘Bread and Butter’, he offers solace to a mentally challenged woman Ponni (Deepa), his old classmate abandoned by her own parents. Naachiyaar (Jyothirmayee), newly appointed constable handcuffs Murugesan for the petty criminal acts. As clichéd, she falls in love with him getting to know about his humanity. Meanwhile, town’s baddie Kotanjan (Raneesh) sexually harasses Ponni and in turn Murugesan avenges by killing him. His elder brother sets out for revenge and Murugesan has to run for his life.

Pasupathy is spotted too talkative and shaking his legs with heroine. Something unusual and your patience is tested with these annoying aspects. Nevertheless, his comedic attempts do some favors from falling into bad criticisms. Patently, Jyothirmayee does nothing extraordinary and Vadivelu steals the show with his rib-tickling comedy tracks. More pathetic to see the mentally challenged girl and it evokes a kind of irritation for the audiences.

Musical score by Dheena isn’t appreciable. You’ve got to spare him for couple of best songs (Both versions of ‘Neenda Dhooram’ by Yesudas and Jyothirmayee). Apart from that, the background score is so hard and camera shakes gets you prone to nausea.

On the whole, the film has no probabilities of surviving in box office. Maybe, it may fetch some good reports across villages.

But our verdict is: Just forget about the film.

Unlike in many films, Pasupathy overreacts at many situations on the attempts of enunciating with Madurai-styled Tamil. He could’ve avoided shaking legs with his ladylove as it looks more unapt for him. But, he is up with good works at certain points. Jyothirmayee gets on with a decent attempt. Filmmaker Moorthy has tried projecting villains with comedy shades. But that turns to be more ridiculous apart from few sequences. Vadivelu fills the space with best comedy tracks. Don’t miss the scene where he orders ‘Spring Rolls’ and ‘Burgers’ at a roadside hotel. Although, the film has such interesting parts, major portion of the film looks insubstantial with over-loaded dialogues and dragging screenplay.

Out of 6 songs, Dheena does a commendable score with ‘Neenda Dhooram Pogum Paadhai’ with Yesudas and Bombay Jayashree. Fine! Just forget about rest of the songs filled with loud beats and nettlesome tunes. Cinematography looks amateurish and so is the editing.

‘Vedigundu Murugesan’ would’ve been a better film to watch, if shorter in duration without overdosed matters. It’s a big question mark how come Pasupathy turned affirmative for this film.
