Kanthaswamy – Middling narration stylishly shot
As the tagline ‘middling narration, stylishly shot’ – Kanthaswamy goes nowhere away from this verdict. Susi Ganeshan, who came up with commendable directorial in previous films gears up for a big ticket that merely falls on the same line. Well, for Vikram who never showed up here after Bheema, it’s a great piece of work from him. The actor much trimmed in his physique looks smart, cool and fantastic.
Of course, analyzing ‘Kanthaswamy’ can be put forth in comparisons of hit-to-hit plus and minuses.
Let’s start off with the story.
Set in backdrops of Kanthaswamy temple (one of the well known place of worshipping Lord Muruga) people with unbearable problems raise their prayers through a piece of paper and tie it to the tree. For a great wonder, their needs are accomplished within an overnight by a superhero Kanthaswamy (Vikram). Things start to be more serious as the temple gets overcrowded. DIG (Prabhu) sets out to unravel the mystery through various measures.
Then enters a CBI officer Kanthaswamy (Vikram), who strives to bring out the black money from hi-profiled tycoons and one amongst them is PPP aka Ponnusamy (Aashish Vidyarthi). After having recovered the black money of Rs.1000Crores, Ponnusamy is much broken down in his heart. Immediately, we have PPP’s daughter Subbulakshmi (Shriya Charan) vowing to seek revenge by making him fall in love. But again, the superhero’s deeds increase day-by-day and cops are vividly on the task of hunting him down.
What happens next is unexpected twists and turns with a lengthy-narration.
Plus:
Vikram’s performance is top-notching. The actor has inhaled his characterization so perfectly and does come up with astounding show.
Prabhu’s performance as an investigative officer is a great job. The actor who has recently played just father and brother roles proves himself in an unusual role.
Few comedy-tracks by Vadivelu evokes laughter… Susi Ganeshan could’ve tried the tracks to be emerged with any of the mainstream character.
Ekambaram’s cinematography has eye-catching visuals. But the strong yellowish toned flavor should have been reduced slightly.
Breathtaking stunts play a great significance in elevating film’s raciness.
Minus
Shriya Charan tries to capture everyone’s attention with scarceness in dresses and extreme skin shows. But looks terrible on the screen for she crosses the limits of glamour. Maybe you can quote it as ‘obscenity’. More than all, Suchitra’s voice for Shriya turn the things to be clumsier.
Any idea about watching a film with 200mins(approx) with dragging screenplay? You’ve it all with ‘Kanthaswamy’. If Susi Ganeshan had tried making a film with Hollywood-fangled look, well he must have considered the duration as well. With the film’s duration turning to be very long, audiences loose out their patience.
Lack of continuity in many parts: although, Vadivelu’s comedy tracks are quite nice, it terribly breaks down the seriousness in this script. If Susi Ganesha had plans about adding more commercial ingredients, he should have gone for some other option.
Musical score by Devi Sri Prasad sounds pathetic in few songs. Fine! when other songs sound good, both Susi and Ekambaram fail to capture it properly.
Susi Ganesh flatters with more not-so-natural traits. Here are some of the illustrations…
1.   Vikram’s hide out across the lakeside area is absurd. At this modern day, where films like National Treasure are made, how come Susi Ganeshan planted a secret hideout hub with Lakhs and Crores of currencies are concealed.
2.   Even Bill Gate’s daughter wouldn’t get into flight for sipping a cup of coffee (indeed Shriya says, ‘I just fly by Helicopter for my haircut’).
3.   The climax portion reminds us off Vikram’s earlier film ‘Samurai’.
Technically, the editing part has been done with amateurishness. It distracts and perhaps diminishes the visual quality enhanced by cinematographer
The ‘Thai-Chi’ fight sequences are silly as logics is completely missing.
Susi Ganeshan’s guest appearance falls short in expectations.
Final Take:
‘Kanthaswamy’ is a film you can watch just to kill your time. But we cannot assure whether you’ve patience for 3.15hrs of show. According to us, with big hands joining together, it should’ve exceeded our expectations. But, the film tenuously falls down from the league of ‘Very Good’ to ‘Average’.

I don’t know why don’t directors follow their own style… It’s clearly seen that Susi Ganesan has tried to follow shankar’s style of movie… Each and every frame of the movie reminds you shankar’s movie. But Shankar does it good, where in Susi failed.
Kanthasamy is a mixture of Anniyan and Sivaji with some additional elements that too blindly followed in shankar’s style of making the film….
Even the climax of this movie is similar to Anniyan. In both the movies, people think vikram has changed. But still he follows his duty…..
In one word, its a disappointment…..
