John Travolta has reportedly arrived in the Bahamas as he prepares to testify in an extortion case following his son’s death.
The actor has returned to the island country for the first time since his 16-year-old son Jett died in January (09) after suffering a seizure at their vacation home, according to People.com.
On Monday (21Sep09), a jury was selected and sworn in with opening statements scheduled to begin on Tuesday (22Sep09).
Travolta tops a 14-member witness list and is expected to be called to the stand this week (begs21Sep09) to testify against former Bahamian Senator Pleasant Bridgewater and paramedic Tarino Lightbourne.
The pair stands accused of conspiring to release a document containing information about the teen’s death in a $25 million (ÂÅ17.2 million) extortion plot against Travolta and his grieving wife Kelly Preston.
They pleaded not guilty to the charges in April (09).
An attorney representing Lightbourne says, “If the prosecution doesn’t call him (Travolta), we will. Of course, he’s a key witness.”
