Perhaps, everyone should’ve been well versed with the film’s storyline. If not, catch a glimpse over the synopsis enclosed by the producers over the DVD cover

Love Aaj

London, San Francisco, Delhi – 2009.
Jai and Meera is a modern-day couple in London. They are very happy together but do not believe in tying each other down. So when life pulls them in different directions, they decide to go with the flow. “These Heer-Ranjha, Romeo-Juliet type janam janam ka saath type couples exist only in story books,” Jai says. In the real life, we have to be practical.

Love Kal

Delhi, Calcutta – 1965.
Veer Singh is struck by a thunderbolt when he sees Harleen for the first time. Soon after, he stands under a tree and swears that “is janam mein aur har janam mein… yehi meri votti banegi – Harleen Kaur.” He travels a thousand kilometers by train to stand under her balcony only to have a glimpse of her face. And yet not speak a word with her.

Love Aaj Kal

Veer does not understand how Jai can treat matters of the heart without passion, like a financial transaction. Jai does not understand how Veer Singh could have been so naive and silly about Harleen in the days of his youth. But as both stories unfold, we realize that the process of relationship might be different in different eras, but the experience of being in love remains the same. So there is the frolic and despair of modern living, the liberation and confusion. And there is the past – the times of innocence and compulsion. And there is distance, and the fondness that increases with distance. Gaps widen between two people, but bridges keep growing too.

DVD Special Features:

Certainly you’ve got to trust us. ‘Love Aaj Kal’ has the ever-best features that can be afforded for.

The special features includes, ‘Making of Film’, ‘Behind the scenes of songs’, ‘Deleted Scenes’, tête-à-tête with cast-and-crew members, teasers of the film, remix videos, audio launch, press meets and more.

Though, it may sound to be quite clichéd with the features, you’ll surely witness a completely enjoyable show with these features.

Making of Film:

It all starts off with Rishi Kapoor’s take on the film about. The versatile actor expresses his admiration for Imtiaz Ali’s innovative script work on how the definition of love has changed over the course of time. Says Rishi; “In our days, it wasn’t an easy deal to approach a girl and propose their love. But these days, youngsters’ way of handling the situations have completely transformed….”

-         Director Imtiaz Ali:
‘Saif Ali Khan jumped into my mind as I started penning the script. Earlier I had plans about casting two different actors for ‘Jai’ and ‘Veer Singh’ roles. But later, as the script was on halfway done, I just realized that Saif would be an apt choice for enacting both the roles. It was about delineating the same actor with variations on all panoramas.

-         Saif Ali Khan –
I just believed Imtiaz Ali with his appealing storyline. An unforgettable experience was it to work with such a filmmaker and ace actors like Rishi Kapoor.

-         Deepika Padukone –
‘As Imtiaz narrated the story, I was just awestruck as the characterization of ‘Meera’, as it was so close to my heart and my real life character indeed. Every time Imtiaz would explain the scenes, I would predict saying ‘I know it… I know it’.

BEHIND THE SCENES AND SONGS:

‘CHOR BAZAARI’ – we’ve the best visuals of behind the scenes on making of this song. Imtiaz Ali explains that he and his location manager Sandeep had so easily designed to shoot the song in busiest roads of Delhi. Actually, it was a 20sec shot of Saif & Deepika getting into car and getting top over it. But it took nearly 4 hrs to complete the shot.

The most exciting part of the song comes with its climax portion where Deepika falls down flat on the floors as Saif misses the timing to hold her.

DELETED SCENES:

Couple of deleted sequences was really interesting and it would gradually make you feel why these were deleted by Imtiaz Ali.

The first one is about the climax portion where Saif gifts a diamond ring over the table as waiter serves the food. Regrettably, Deepika hides the ring pretending to be unaware about his gift. Saif is spotted getting restless as he cuts of the pie cake fearing that the ring may have been coalesced with and asks her to open the mouth as she may accidentally swallow it.

It’s a mirthful scene followed by all the four lead characters meeting at MADHU SWEET STALL. In the film, Veer Singh is spotted getting scolded by Harleen at the same shop not to follow her anymore. The present shows how the shop has  changed and Neetu Singh narrates the scenario how she warned Rishi Kapoor before years at the same place. The shot closes down with varieties of foods placed on the table.

Fine! Imtiaz Ali comes up with his brief explanation about deleting these scenes as it was replaced by ‘Aahun Aahun’ song at final credits.

There are 5 other shots from songs and other talkie portions that don’t evoke any interest.

The other features include the press conference about Saif Ali Khan revealing about his plans of launching the film’s audio at famous TV Show of ‘SA RE GA MA’ – A musical show.
