Is Tamil Film Producers Council sleeping?

November - 6 - 2009

rama narayananLooks like no one has shown keen interesting over paying attention to the amendments put forth by Tamil Film Producers Council. Recently, the members of Tamil film producers council presided by President Rama Narayanan had passed on few regulations to ensure that all the producers would go with palmy results.

1.    To release minimum 2-3 releases every Friday (medium and low budget movies)

2.    To release big budget films only for festive occasions and government holidays.

3.    Offering home video rights within 50-100days after film’s release.

But then, none of these decisions seems to be regulated with our filmmakers and producers. It’s more illustrious with this Friday (November 5) as 6 films are hitting screens. The theatres are flooded with so many releases as it would really result in unfavorable results. Except ‘Saa Boo Thri’ none of the films had better publicities, even the remake of ‘Palaivana Cholai’. Instantly, we feel sorry for those producers who’ve been reluctant to the situations.

The second rule of releasing big budget films on festive occasions and government holidays. But this morning, we get to see the ads published by Sun Pictures that ‘Vettaikaran’ has a worldwide release on Dec 18.

When approached a producer with anonymity, he said, “TFPC might have passed on such rules for a good cause. But they’ve to keep things in control. In reality, it is not possible to release 2 films per Friday as remaining films wouldn’t get theatres with realms of big stars’ films in box office…”

Though most of the theaters are empty with flop movies being screened more than 50 days, the owners are bound to certain deals with those producers, who would’ve inked the deal about screening the film for minimum of 100days.

It really makes us wonder whether Tamil Film Producers Council is really aware about this.
