Divorce mania in South Indian actress

November - 13 - 2009

kavya, aarthi, sonia, gayathriThis year has been the most appalling year in South Indian film industry as the more actresses have divorced within a short span after their marriage.

Kavya Madhavan:
She has been a fantastic actress from God’s own country. With her eminence in acting, the actress had won more laurels and accolades. She got married to Nischal Kumar, a Dubai based professional in Bank. The actress fled all way to Kerala stating that she is been harassed by her in-law and their family members.

Aarthi Agarwal:
The hottie of Tollywood was into her nuptials with Tasval Kumar of United States. They were all happy together for couple of years until when the past was dug on her past affair with actor Tarun.

Sonia Agarwal:
Director Selvaraghavan-Sonia Agarwal lived an adorable life together in the same house even before their marriage. Regrettably, they’re separated with mutual concern. Buzzes have been decking up that Selva has an affair with playback singer-actress Andrea and that was the absolute result.

Gayathri Raghuram:
Daughter of renowned choreographer Raghu Ram, the actress entered wedlock with US based software engineer Deepak Chandrasekar two years ago and for no reason they split up. Gayathri has returned to Chennai with a keen interest over resuming her acting career.

So, it looks like a ritual about actresses marrying foreign based IT professionals (in major cases), lead a happy together for not more than couple of years and divorce later with an idea about second innings in career.

What a sexist article! It seems to suggest women are to be blamed for the breakdown of marriage and that one reason to end the marriage is to try for a second innings at movie stardom. A marriage ends for many reasons. One of the reasons why South Indian actresses are asking for divorce is because they have moved beyond the “kallaanum kanavan and pullaananum purushan” mumbo jumbo. Unlike the wives of yester year actors whose wives put up with bad treatment and affairs by their husband, the new 21st century woman will not stand for all that. And good for her!
