With 2009 turning to be a not-so good year for Tamil film industry, the coming year has already raised everyone’s expectations with big league of releases announced for the Pongal and following seasons. Let’s take a look over few films that are slated to hit screens for the first season of 2009…
1. Aayirathil Oruvan – The project nearly took 3 years to complete and expectations gradually reduced. But then with the grand promotion of songs and teasers, the graphs of anticipations have reached with greater magnitude. The film has done a big business and is set to open in more number of centres.
2. Goa – Followed by the grand success of ‘Chennai 600028’ and ‘Saroja’, Venkat Prabhu is back in action with another comedy-thriller.
3. Theeradha Vilayattu Pillai – Vishal’s previous films weren’t successful at box office and now he has geared up for a different genre of romantic-entertainer. With three hotties – Tanushree Dutta, Sarah Jane and Neethu Chandra, the young lads are sure to get their hearts stolen. Nevertheless, the songs aren’t a great hit now.
4. Kutty – Whatever maybe the situation, the film will leap with laurels as Dhanush has got a good market amongst the trade arenas. The film’s original version ‘Aarya’ was a blockbuster in Tollywood… Jawahar Mithran is well known for making films as decent entertainers.
5. Vinnaithandi Varuvaaya – Gowtham Menon’s comeback after ‘Vaaranam Aayiram’ will be a breezy romantic entertainer. Featuring Simbhu and Trisha in lead roles, the Telugu version has yet more good looking couples – Naga Chaitanya and Samantha in lead roles. A.R. Rahman’s musical score is an added value for the success of this film.
6. Paiyya – Tamil Film Producers Council have insisted Lingusamy to release the film 35 days after the release of ‘Aayirathil Oruvan’, which preferably falls on the valentine day occasion. Already couple of songs has been screened for the special celebrities of Kollywood, distributors and exhibitors, which has resulted in profitable business for Lingusamy.
