Actor Randy Quaid and his wife EVI were finally hauled into court on Tuesday (22Dec09) after their weekend arrests – to plead their innocence in a dispute over an unpaid hotel bill.
The pair ignored five orders to appear in court to face charges of burglary, defrauding an innkeeper, and conspiracy after they left the the luxury San Ysidro Ranch in Santa Barbara, California in September (09) without settling the $10,000 (ÂÅ6,250) bill.
The law caught up with them at the weekend (19/20Dec09) when the husband and wife were arrested a day apart on the orders of a presiding judge.
At the court in Santa Barbara, California, they pleaded not guilty to the charges, and were each released on $40,000 (ÂÅ25,000) bail. The pair’s attorney tells the Associated Press that the Quaids have now settled the bill with the ranch.
The couple will have to return to court on 1 March (10).
