December - 31 - 2009

3 idiotsBollywood has been representing the Indian film industry for past three decades as they have been expanding their showbiz towards international market. Unlike the previous year, 2009 has been a very disappointing year as most of the biggies sputtered in box office.  Very few films can be adjudged as the best films that yielded profitable results.

1. 3 Idiots:
When most of the films weren’t at least up to the expectation values, the yearend has happy news for entire Bollywood as it fetched Rs.100Crs within 5 days. The entire film offers a complete entertainment to the audiences.

2. Kaminey:
This film gradually pushed Shahid Kapoor to the main league of actors and he’s much alike Khans and Kumar now. Kaminey did a marvelous job at box office and created a big fever in towns amidst of swine flu fear in Mumbai and surrounding areas.

3. Love Aaj Kal:
From the filmmaker Imtiaz Ali, here’s another breezy romantic entertainer after ‘Jab We Met’. The film had an interesting concept of various dimensions of love at present and ancient times.

4. Dev D:
The new-fangled version of ‘Devdas’ and it was a ground-breaking attempt by Anurag Kashyap. Abhay Deol scored brownie points for his awe-inspiring job as the modern day Devdas.

5. Paa:
Though the film was based on genetic disorder, director Balki established more prominence for father-son relationship. It was a worth watching not merely for the colossal show of Amitabh Bachchan, but for a wonderful presentation of this film with good narration and technical aspects.

6. Wanted:
A great break for Salman Khan!!! His previous films flunked miserably at box office and choreographer Prabhu Deva saved Sallu Bhai. The film was acknowledged as equivalently powerful as other two versions of ‘Pokkiri’ in  Tamil and Telugu.

7. New York:
Kabir Khan is well known for blending pragmatic issues with his creatively rhetoric style of screenwriting. It portrayed John Abraham completely away from his macho-looks while Neil Nithin Mukesh stole the show. It can be regarded as Katrina Kaif’s best performance in her entire  career.

8. Wake Up Sid:
The film belongs to Ranbir Kapoor. The young charming actor spellbound us on various arenas that he wasn’t used before. Konkona Sen Sharma was okay and musical score was quite impressive.

9. Jail:
An extraordinary film from Madhur Bhandarkar, who made gripping tales of trilogy – Page 3, Corporate and Traffic Signal. Neil Nithin Mukesh just swept us off with his stupendous adeptness.

10. Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani:
It’s one more flick from Ranbir Kapoor. Rajkumar Santhoshi hadn’t touched the lines of mirthful entertainer after ‘Andaz Apna Apna’ and this film was a wonderful piece of work though it didn’t have a strong story. Ranbir and Katrina shared an appealing onscreen chemistry…
