Best Music Composers of 2009 in Kollywood

December - 31 - 2009

selvaganeshMuch alike new filmmakers dominating the Tamil film industry in 2009, it has been the realms of debutant in world of music. Many youngsters have spellbound us with their experimental music rather than striking the same chords of usual sounds.

We bring you an exclusive look on those music directors establishing a prominent place for themselves in Tamil film industry.

1. V. Selvaganesh:
Being a protégé of A.R. Rahman, V. Selvaganesh had spelled commendable tunes with his debut film ‘Vennila Kabadi Kulu’. He had no other releases this year, but is already working on various projects likely to be launched in 2010.

2. Harris Jayaraj: His combination with Surya has worked wonders at audio markets. Followed by the grand success of ‘Vaaranam Aayiram’, the music director came up with some good attention-grabbing tunes in ‘Ayan’, but failed to keep up the status in ‘Aadhavan’.

3. G.V. Prakash: Doubtlessly, he’s the best of all best musicians as his musical score for ‘Aayirathil Oruvan’ is marvelous. As actor Karthi said, he has struck us in disbelief and astonishment by delivering powerful tunes at a very young age. His release ‘Anandha Thandavam’ too had some good tunes of various genres.

4. Renigunta : Unlike filmmakers, music directors have got a speculative task to be done. Their very first musical album must arrest the senses of listeners or else it’s really difficult to capture their interests on following ones. But newcomer Ganesh Raghavendran. Almost all his songs in ‘Renigunta’ have been acclaimed as chart busters.

5. James Vasanthan: Followed by his one-song success with ‘Kangal Irandal’, the music director hadn’t exceeded the levels, but did come up with interesting melodies in ‘Pasanga’. Particularly his rendition of song with Bala Murali Krishna in this film is a worth mentioning number. His other release ‘Nanayam’ hasn’t made it bigger in audio markets due to lack of  publicity.

6. Yuvan Shankar Raja: He has done maximum projects this year – Siva Manasula Sakthi, Sarvam, Theeratha Vilayattu Pillai and Vaamanan. Though not all the albums have been successful, every film had single hits.

7. Vijay Anthony: He never strained himself to give out a better tune. But, he made us dance and tap our feet for his Kuthu songs. Kudos to this musician!!! His ‘Aathichudi’ from TN 07 AL 4777, ‘Ninaithale Inikkum’ and ‘Vettaikaran’ have been a great hit amongst B and C centres.

8. Thamman. S: The young musician who made his onscreen debut as one of the guys in ‘Boys’ made his debut as a music director in ‘Moscowin Kaveri’. Though the songs were quite good, they didn’t reach towards the masses. But then his wonderful score for ‘Eeram’ swept everyone off their senses.

9. Ilayaraja: Last but not the least is our very own Ilayaraja. He scored music for three films – Naan Kadavul, Madhya Chennai, Pazhassi Raja and a Hindi film ‘Paa’. It was a mixed composition of fantabulous tunes and mediocre ones.

It’s noteworthy that the ardent buffs of A.R. Rahman were very much disappointed as he didn’t have any Tamil releases. Followed by the Oscars triumph, he was into the western projects and couple of Hindi films – Delhi 6 and Blue. But, the Madras Mozart will surely let your senses high-spirited as 2010 will bring at least minimum 5 Tamil projects for the fans here (Vinnaithandi Varuvaaya, Raavana, Endhiran and couple of other projects).
