Kutty – Just as the title suggests in adjective terms, the film caters to miniscule audiences. Don’t expect this film to be a rarified one as it’s an exact copycat of Telugu blockbuster ‘Aarya’.
Soon as we have watched the film, it really makes us puzzled with the disoriented remake of Jawahar Mithran. A film remade after 4 years of time surely needs to have lots of modifications so as to capture the contemporaneous audiences. But, ‘Kutty’ being a blatant replica of its Telugu version stumbles down right on the first hour.
Sure-footed Dhanush should’ve at least got himself into the script work and added some interesting prospects. But a threadbare script with uninteresting screenplay puts us down restless prior to intermission. Not merely for the similarities with ‘Aarya’, but it vividly reminisces Vijay starrer ‘Sachin’.
When a spoilt brat Arjun (Sameer) vows to commit suicide, Geetha (Shriya Saran) pledges her gesture of acceptance for his proposal. Well, on a surprising note we’ve Kutty (Dhanush), a rakish lad falling in love with Geetha at the first sight. Geetha gets wedged between bedlams as she really hates Kutty and not so interested in Arjun as well. But when Geetha censures Kutty severely for the fault actually he didn’t commit, he enunciates about not coming into her life again. Unexpectedly, the doubtful Arjun fails to seek his father’s (Radha Ravi) favor as he fixes the proposal with his friend’s daughter. Now, it’s Kutty striving to unite Arjun and Geetha. But things don’t proceed as expected with a climax that can be predicted by a first-time moviegoer.
Dhanush looks well-groomed with exquisitely fine costumes and his improvised gesture. But he keeps faintly imitating Allu Arjun in more sequences that literally stops us from singing his praises. It’s a great surprise to spot Shriya Charan sans her skin shows with skimpy costumes while she fails to score well on the performance criteria. New guy Sameer keeps on striding with a matured acting and he can look out for some best offers now. Srinath, Aarthi keeps adding to humor quotients to certain levels while Mayilsamy fascinates with his minimal appearance. It’s a dismayed performance from Vincent Ashokan and he shouldn’t have picked such tenuous roles.
Technically, the songs are completely uncollectible and Devi Sri Prasad has too work a lot in terms of creative spell if he has plans about sustaining his position in Kollywood. Balasubramaniam delineates awe-inspiring visuals with rich colors and editing could’ve been yet better.
As on whole, ‘Kutty’ fails to savor our interests and it’s a film well-tailored for B-C centres and especially for those possessing good-natured tolerance of bearing such dragging narration.
