‘Hot Shots’ and ‘Scary Movies’ have been the most happening spoof flicks played on Hollywood movies including the biggest ones like ‘Rambo’ and ‘Terminator’. Much inspired by this genre, producer Dayanidhi Azhagiri and debutant Amudhan have come up with a creative ideation in Kollywood.
Indeed the film’s trailer raised everyone’s expectations and so were the songs. Especially the song ‘Oh Maha Zeeya’ was right enough to tickle your funny bones.
But on reality grounds, the film isn’t a full-length hilarious entertainer as major portion is brimmed with ludicrous comedy tracks that don’t evoke laughter.
In a village where male children are killed, Siva (Shiva) happens to be an out of the ordinary boy as he departs himself to Chennai through goods train with his grandmother’s aid. As a grown-up lad, he joins a college and gets into company of three friends – Nakul (MS Bhaskar), Siddharth (Manobala) and Bharath (Venniraadai Moorthy). He falls in love with his class friend (Disha Pandey) (again a spoof played on best romantic entertainers – Kadhalukku Mariyadhai, Mozhi and Mouna Ragam). But her father doesn’t approve their marriage since Siva is a poor, unemployed person doesn’t even know who his father is.
Now much in the way of inviting ridicule, Shiva vows to become rich and find his pappa. Of course, an overnight miracle shines on Shiva just as it happened with Rajnikanth in ‘Annamalai’. Now when it comes to finding his dad in distant hamlets, a family song like ‘Yaadon Ki Bharath’ makes his Google-search easier.
Later, it’s revealed that Shiva isn’t what he seems to be. Yeah! Shiva is an undercover cop ordained manifestly to bump off the baddies. The higher officials have imputed him to track down the deadliest criminal ‘D’ company (mockery on Ram Gopal Varma films where ‘D’ Company remains as the centralized theme). When Shiva unravels the person leading ‘D’ company it literally pits him into unconditional shock.
Kudos to debutant Amudhan! He has done a perfect job on unusual star-casts. The very ‘Shiva’ factor keeps us sparkled with laugh-riots for his indigenous witticism. The reminiscential traits of ‘Boys’ team through Manobala, M.S. Bhaskar and Venniraadai Rama Moorthy is a highlighting costume. Especially watch out for their stylish costumes and American-Doctor shirts and lavish gadgets. Disha hasn’t got anything to do more with the script. But her initial encounters with Shiva that faintly mocks down the best romantic films.
Just take a look over ‘Anniyan’ act of opening up umbrella on the buffaloes and Shiva’s classical dance to impress his girlfriend, they’re sure to overwhelm us with hilarity. The dim-witted climax may have couple of effects – make you laugh or urge to bang your heads over the walls.
As mentioned earlier, very few portions keep you occupied while major portion of the film isn’t really mirthful. Musical score by Kannan isn’t engrossing. Except a song ‘Oh Maha Zeeya’, none of them turn to be really interesting. Nirav Shah’s cinematography is mind-boggling as he has cranked every shot with perfect traits.
Finally, ‘Thamizh Padam’ isn’t a full-fledged laughter-riot as it keeps us intact merely to a certain extent. Somehow, it’s a film that can be watched once if you’re ready to bear some ridiculous jokes as well. In spite of promoting the film with a disclaimer that it doesn’t hurt the feelings of any actor, Amudhan has indirectly pulled down the legs of certain mass heroes which may be a disregard their fans.
