Happy Tamil New Year’s Day

Owing to the trailer’s response, the makers of the movie had arranged an event yesterday at PVR – Juhu, Mumbai.  The event had the cast of Shanghai present at the venue including Abhay Deol, Emraan Hashmi, Kalki Koechlin and director Dibakar Banerjee.

Abhay said that he had to get trained for 2-3 months to get a south Indian accent and Emraan Hashmi spoke about how he was made to eat bowls of pasta every day to gain extra weight for his role as Jogi Parmar.

The event was a star studded affair and Shangai has dwelled as one of the most awaited films of 2012 and is slated to release on 8th of June, 2012.

The Supreme Court, on April 4, asked Ghai to return the land in Mumbai, measuring 20 acres, to the state, and also rapped the former Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, saying he could not have treated anyone as “blue-eyed boy”.  Earlier, the High Court had said that Deshmukh, as Maharashtra Chief Minister, had “abused” his powers while allotting the land.

According to reports, Ghai stated, “I have no political connections.  I am interested in imparting education, our focus is to spread knowledge, we are not part of politics or anything of that sort.  I have no knowledge of what happens in the world of politics, I have no connections with it.”

The film-maker further stated, “I have the highest regard for judiciary, I respect the law.  It is unfortunate that this thing happened with no fault of ours.  I am sure a door will open.  Whatever we did, was with honesty.  We are sure that somewhere, somehow government will look into it, they will find out a way.  I appeal to them to look into it.”

“I never imagined this problem.  From our end, we were being honest.  We were told by the Maharashtra Government that all formalities…legalities are in place.” To make his point, he added that when a driving license is issued, “you don’t ask if the concerned department has followed all formalities,” replied Ghai when asked if he foresaw the controversy when he got the land in 2004.  He also revealed that as per the court’s order, the institute had enrolled students only till 2014.

The rumour machine is busy with the news that, Rani was the first choice for the movie ‘Ghanchakkar’ and in the same way, ‘Begum Samru’ was offered to Vidya first.

It seems Tigmanshu Dhulia, director of ‘Saheb Biwi aur Gangster’ and ‘Paan’, initially approached Vidya Balan to play the lead role in his upcoming flick ‘Begum Samru’.  However, Vidya Balan took a long time to confirm.  Tigmanshu instead of wasting time approached Rani Mukherjee and offered the role to her.  If rumours are to be believed, then the role was written as per keeping Rani in mind.

According to reports, Vidya got very upset and was fuming with anger when the news reached her.

In the same way, Rajkumar Gupta opted for Rani to play the female lead in his comedy film ‘Ghanchakkar’, but eventually the role fell into Vidya’s kitty.

Well, one thing is very strange about the two is that, while promoting their film ‘No One Killed Jessica’ they pulled out a new feat by kissing each other on the lips and now they do not want to face each other anymore?
