It has not been an easy journey for Rose, a Chennai-based TV show host and a transgender.

Rose is now all set to produce and direct her own show. No wonder then, she particularly welcomes the Delhi High Court’s historic judgement on Section 377, decriminalising homosexuality.

“I think now the Delhi High Court has clearly made it a point and stated that these people are also humans and they also deserve the same kinds of rights as other people,” she said.

Rose first made news as a one-of-a kind transgender host of a chat show called Ippadikku. She’s now all set to become the first transgender director, producer and anchor in the country with her new chat show titled Ithu Rose Neram (This is Rose Hour).

This will see Rose as an American-born-Tamilian, who wants to do a PhD about India and therefore is out to interview people from different walks of life - discussing a range of issues from lifestyle to current affairs.

“My first episode is about obesity, so I had brought in people who are obese or overweight to my home and discussed how painful it’s for them to be so,” she reveals.

Ithu Rose Neram will be aired on Saturdays at 9:30 pm. It’s still a long way to go but for now, Rose’s just happy to be a mainstream TV personality.

Shruthi & Imran Khan ready to try their Luck

The cast and crew of Luck gathered at a city hotel in Mumbai to promote the film. And while actor Kamal Hassan’s daughter debutante Shruti Hassan was busy doing with a live performance, Actor Imran Khan revealed why he chose to do his own stunts.

Shruti confessed she is not a tad bit nervous about being compared to her parents.

“Comparison is inevitable, but I want people to remember me for my work. I have a pressure to prove myself,” she said.

The film, directed by Soham Shah is an action thriller which traces the journey of various characters. It also boasts about some death defying stunts done by the cast. Actor Imran khan who insisted upon doing his own stunts also pushed his co-actors to do so.

“As a kid I use to love the way Jackie Chan used to do his stunts and today’s audience is very smart they will come to know if you use a stunt man or use some graphics,” said Imran.

Stunts aside we asked the cast and crew on why audiences should try their luck with this film and pat came the reply.

“Because it’s a film which treats luck as a commodity,” said Imran.

“The way the film is packaged with all the characters, it makes it interesting,” said Shruti.

Releasing on July 24 Luck also stars Sanjay Dutt, Danny Denzongpa and Mithun Chakraborty.

New York hit by a controversy

New York starring Katrina Kaif, John Abraham and Neil Nitin Mukesh has been declared a hit. But little did the makers know that they would be hit by a controversy. Newbie director Suchita Bhatia has alleged that Yash Raj Films has used her script.

It was a story that screenwriter Suchita Bhatia had narrated to film director Arjun Sablok in 2006, after Aditya Chopra suggested she meet Sablok. And when New York directed by Kabir Khan released on Friday, she was shocked to find out that the film’s story is much similar to the one she had narrated to Sablok.

“When I saw the film I was pretty shocked. That is when I mailed Aditya Chopra and Arjun Sablok telling them that this was our interaction and I already told them the story of John’s track. Obviously they have added Neil’s track and Irrfan’s track, tampered with it n made it their own story,” said Suchita.

Suchita has lodged a complaint with the Film Writers Association but the New York’s director Kabir Khan refutes the charges.

“Broad similarities of stories will obviously happen but the devil is in the details. It’s been really unfortunate that this has come at a time because it reeks of trying to get free publicity,” said Kabir.

What is more, Arjun Sablok denies meeting her at all.

“I do not recollect meeting this person but I know for a fact that I have not heard a story similar to New York from anyone, ever,” Sablok quoted.

But Suchita claims that she has email proofs of her interaction with Aditya Chopra and meeting with Arjun Sablok.

“I am not here to malign anybody and for any sort of cheap publicity. I am just here to say that there has been infringement and I have the right to talk about it and so I am talking about it,” she said.

In a new twist to the tale, now Yash Raj Films is going to file a defamation case against Suchita Bhhatia.

John Abraham auctions personal stuff

John has reportedly raised $5 million for charity. The actor made an appearance for the Habitat for Humanity and plans to help them build 7,000 homes in India and most of the money for these homes will come through the auction of John’s personal belongings.

“As superficial as this sounds there are people out there who want things that you possess, so why not give it away for a good cause? So I gave away my helmet, my jackets - things that I really cherished and enjoyed at a certain price. The only thing is that I asked for a lot of money for it.”

Helmets and jackets might be easy to give away, but what about John’s bikes?

“My bikes? If I get to build another 100 homes then I’ll give my bikes as well,” says the actor.

John says he is feeling generous especially since his latest film New York has been declared a success at the box office.

“It feels good, because the audience gives us the biggest reward and I just feel fortunate that after Dostana, I had New York and after this I hope my next film does well too. It’s a great feeling, it’s very positive to be liked because most of the time, people concentrate on our looks. Now that people have liked my acting I’m very grateful, thank you,” says he.

John is one of the most active members of Bollywood who has never shied away from charity, and now that his films are finally working at the box office, people can be assured that good deeds do finally come around.

Homosexuality immature

On a day when the Delhi High Court has passed a historic judgement on Section 377 and decriminalised homosexuality, the portrayal of queers in the movies is also in focus.

While Bollywood has certainly matured in it’s portrayal of homosexuals over the years, it’s is still far away from a day when actors like Hrithik Roshan or Aamir Khan may play a gay character on screen.

From what was once an easy target of ridicule, the joke turned tables on the homophobic.

Though no A-list Bollywood actor has yet risked playing a gay character in the movies. Popular films like Kal Ho Na Ho and more recently Dostana have helped in bringing the issue out into the mainstream.

“As far as they are asking me, homosexuality should never be shown caricaturish and I’m totally against it. And if films are made, they should be for entertaining and entertainment, we all should be more responsible towards everyone’s feelings,” said actor John Abraham.

Filmmaker Onir’s My Brother Nikhil released in 2003 is considered one of the most sensitive films on the issue of homosexuality. It even had a successful multiplex run.

But the director feels the attitude and approach towards the subject needs to change, “The mindset has to change,” he said.

Thanks to influence of Bollywood on popular culture - homosexuality may no longer raise an eye brow, but it is still a long way off from making a Brokeback Mountain.

Kalabhavan Mani as Home Minister

Kalabhavan Mani is all set to become Home Minister, in his forthcoming film, ‘Caribbeans’. Of course this is not the first time that Mani is playing a politician or a minister, but most of his politician and minister roles were of the negative kind. In ‘Caribbeans’ he’ll be the hero, for a change.

The film will be directed by debutant Irshad, who’ll be penning the story too. While Sindhu Menon will be the heroine, Shwetha Menon too is reportedly playing a key role in the film, which will be produced by Nandakumar under the banner of Nandana Films.

Dileep takes the lead in ‘Paappi Appacha’

Dileep will be playing the lead role, that of a typical Kottayam guy, in ‘Paappi Appacha’, a film that tells of the bonding between a father and a son. It would be Dileep who plays the son while Innocent would be playing the role of the father.

The film will be produced by Dileep’s own Grand Productions and will be directed by debutant Mammaas. The director himself will be in charge of the script too. ‘Paappi Appacha’ is likely to start rolling in August.

‘Vyapari’ ready to hit the screen

‘Vyapari’ is all set for a July release, with the post-production giving final touches to the film.

Directed by Shakti Chidambaram ‘Vyapari’ is a hit film in Tamil; and it is now being dubbed into Telugu by Kunireddy Srinivas under the banner of Pranati Creations.

SJ Surya is playing the lead in ‘Vyapari’. Let’s remind you that Surya is more popular as a director for Tollywood. He has given hits like ‘Khushi’ with Pawan Kalyan and is presently busy directing him for ‘Puli’.

The three leading ladies of the film; Tamanna, Namita and Malavika are quite popular in Telugu cinema.

The producer of ‘Vyapari’ says, “The film is being made on a scientific backdrop of ‘cloning’. We are trying to portray the human relations and the differences in economic relations. We are sure that the Telugu audiences, who look for different subjects would love the innovative film. We are making efforts to release the film in the second week of July.”

The cast includes Prakash Raj, Nazar and Sita who are playing a key role in the movie. Dialogues and lyrics are by Bharatibabu and music is by Deva.

Nidhi Excels

Komal has spared no efforts to make his new film Chamakaayisi Chindi Udaayisi an enjoyable film for the masses. The film is a non stop entertainer from the first sequence and brings down the house continuously. A well mounted film with rich production values , Chamakaayisi is an uninterrupted laugh riot which enables you to forget all your worries and spend some quality time laughing in the theatre. A must see film in these times of recession that has affected all populace.

Chamakaayisi Chindi Udaayisi is certainly a dream project. Director A.R.Babu has narrated the film inclusive of all commercial ingredients. The film’s heroine Nidhi Subbaiah oozes glamour in every sequence. The film’s other heroine Nethanya comes in a few sequences. All the actors have done their roles superbly.

The major plus of the film is fantastic cinematography by Ashok Cashyap and music composition by Balaji. Balaji had earlier composed music for the film Masth Maja Maadi. He continues his winning streak even in his second Kannada film. And all the four songs of the film is fantastically choreographed by the dance directors. Manju Mandavya’s dialogues have lot of spark in it.

But over all the film belongs to Komal who has shouldered the responsibility of the film. Nidhi Subbaiah is sure to go places in the future.

Gnyabagangal - Tamil Movie Review

Gnyabagangal – Nostalgic memories in celluloid

First and foremost, raise your hands of applause for the bold endeavors of eminent showman brimmed with earnest efforts on striking the screens with new motifs. Nevertheless, Pa. Vijay isn’t elision and he has come with something more interesting. Turning real life incidents into celluloid isn’t something off the wall when it comes to Tamil Film Industry. Indeed, Pa. Vijay has picked the most heart-touching story of his close friend Kathiravan who died to prolonged illness years back. The film goes through his last wish being spelled on the screens.

The film opens with Lyricist Kathiravan alias Meera Priyan (Pa. Vijay) being felicitated with National Award for best lyrics. He takes his way to Haridwar to meet his ex-girlfriend Meera (Sri Devika) as both of them were in love. Unfortunately, she was urged to get married to another man and that shores Kathiravan on pathetic grounds. So, he’s back to her for expressing his wish and what’s it all about. Watch the rest on screens for an unexpected climax.

Pa. Vijay has attempted for the best show as an actor. No issues on certain drawbacks! But he deserves special mention for the unique adeptness. He’s perfect on more quotients especially during the climax portions. Sri Devika on the pars does a good job as a over-talkative active girl. On the emotional outbursts, she does an appreciable job. Director Jeevan himself takes on for a prominent role.

Musical score by James Vick is good with the last song ‘Gnyabagam Illayo En Thozhi’ is a spellbinding tune. Technical aspects are what the film lacks and it could’ve been well handled by Jeevan who indeed cranked the camera. More on the aspects, certain songs could’ve been avoided to make the film so poignantly best.

Anyways, the film is a mediocre and fails to touch your hearts although it has an emotional theme.

Kambaqqt Ishq – Awesome entertainer

Ah! Here’s the most awesome entertainer of the season that you wouldn’t have ever imagined. Indeed, the film exceeds your expectations with the colorful amusements. But you’ve got to know something; this film is a polished version of Tamil Blockbuster ‘Pammal K Sammadam’ with Kamal Haasan in lead roles. But there’s some speciality with Bollywood on one particular panorama and that’s all about ‘Grandiloquently Serving the Best’. The film has the best exceptional aspects including Hollywood Superstars rocking on the screens.

So, what’s the verdict? Trust us and follow one thing! Don’t be too rational and forget the logics. Sit Back relax and enjoy the next couple of hours.

Akshay Kumar who had vividly gone through turmoils with flops of ‘Chandni Chowk to China’ and ‘8×10 Tasveer’ finally gets back to the stands of successful film. What a breathtaking stunts he performs and his emoting towards every situations are mind-boggling. Especially, the humorous pettifoggeries between Akki and Kareena Kapoor do work some magic on the screens.

With ostentation, Viraj Shergill (Akshay Kumar), is the most happening adventurous stuntman in Hollywood. He strongly admits his mantra of woman that ‘Women are only good for two things – Making Love & Making Love’. On the pars, there’s Simirita Rai (Kareena Kapoor), an embodiment of firebrand who doesn’t respect the man and slams them down with her corrosive and sarcastic tone. Well, she strongly trusts “There’s no such thing as love”.

Well, when these two phenomenal characterizations encounter each other at Smiritha’s best friend Kamini’s and Viraj’s brother Lucky’s wedding? Remember this!! It’s a wedding that both Viraj and Simrita are violently opposed to and desperate to stop. Sparks fly, accidents occur, And both are thrown together in the most absurd, hilarious situation until one dramatic twist of fate binds the two together in a manner that they could have never ever even dreamed of in their wildest fantasies. So, are you ready for the battle of the sexes…? Keep waiting to catch who’s going to throw the punches and who is going to blow the kisses?

As mentioned earlier, the cast and crew have spelled the best on their works. Akshay Kumar has been more active and delivered some heart-touching acts during emotional sequences. Kareena Kapoor does work for some best acting and as clichéd, she overreacts in more parts. Better Filmmakers can take a watch and train her for the betterment. Aftab and Amritha Arora have done justice to their roles and nevertheless Amrita showcases her stunning physique that’s stunning more than Kareena Kapoor.

And what else, you’ve the best Hollywood superstars Sylvester Stallone, Brandon Routh and Denise Richards. They add more to the entertaining parts and you’ll keep whistling with applauses for the grandeurs.

Musical score by Anu Malik, Salim Sulaiman are fine and could’ve been better. ‘Om Mangalam Mangalam’ is a commendable piece of work and background score is appreciable on many parts and right throughout the second half, it’s ‘Mangalam Mangalam’ chanting heard all throughout.

Cinematography and editing on well for the finest show and nothing to point out on negative attributes.

On the whole, ‘Kambaqqt Ishq’ deserves a watch if you’re looking out for the best entertaining film for this week. On trade, the film has probabilities to rock in box offices for a month and producers can sway in gleefulness for the abundant collections more than double than they invested.

From sharing a fat lot of their precious time together, love birds Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor are now going to be partners in business as well.

Though Bebo’s name isn’t yet included in the logo of Saif’s production house Illuminati Films, she is no less the producer of his second home production Agent Vinod than Saif. The film is an espionage thriller to be directed by Sriram Raghavan .

As reported by a daily, Saif says, “We’ll definitely be producing films together. It will give us a chance to grow as actors.” Kareena is part of Saif’s production house Illuminati Films along with his partner Dinesh Vijan now. Saif further adds, “She is as much the producer of Agent Vinod as I.”

‘Agent Vinod’ will be second film to be produced by Saif after Love Aaj Kal . Saif and Kareena are getting ready for some on-screen dhishum-dhishum in it. It’s a wish come true for Bebo, who always wanted to do full fledged action scenes like ‘Tomb Raider’ star, Angelina Jolie.

Reports are that she will undergo a rigorous training programme to get into athletic shape. ‘Agent Vinod’ will have several fight scenes between Bebo and Saif, just like the sleek stylish fight sequences we saw between Angelina and Brad Pitt in ‘Mr & Mrs Smith’.

Kareena will play an undercover agent in ‘Agent Vinod’. She will be like famous notorious woman spy of all times, Mata Hari.

Publicity begins for Shahid’s Kaminey

The soundtrack is catching on and the buzz around Vishal Bharadwaj’s latest film Kaminey is growing by the day.

Starring Shahid Kapur and Priyanka Chopra, the film is scheduled to hit screens on August 14 but the filmmaker and lead actor kicked off promotions on Wednesday morning itself, by making an appearance at an FM radio station in Mumbai.

CNN-IBN quizzed the director about the film’s unusual title.

“The story demanded the title. All the characters in my film are kaminey except one. As a director I am trying to find my own mean desires,” says Vishal Bhardwaj.

Shahid Kapoor sported a new look for the event minus the long hair he’s seen wearing for Kaminey. The film is also the actor’s first attempt at a double role.

“I am confident that it is the most difficult role I have done in my career and I don’t know any film which has two lead actors playing brothers who have a speech defect. So it was a very original double role which I was looking to do. I didn’t want a stereotype double role,” says he.

The audiences are waiting for the film and are lapping in all the publicity rounds.
